Im looking to build a bike to tool around on. 26" probably a mountain bike frame with gometry lending its self to trials, with trial gearing. I have had a look on chain reaction ect at frames but the choice on the market is staggering and i dont want to buy a frame no good for the job. can anyone give me some advice or point me in the direction of a good sensibly priced frame or is evertthing specific to its task?

So you want a frame which is good for riding around on, and trials?

I got a M.A.D. Phase 1.2 a month-ish ago, it is a trials bike, but I ride it to my girlfriend's pretty much everyday, and it's around 6 miles there and back, up and down hills, although it's pretty much like a normal MTB for me though 'cause I hate sitting down on bikes...

I've seen a lot of people start out on a normal MTB for trials, then get a trials-specific bike when they get more advanced.

EDIT: +1 validation

I had a quick go on a M.A.D phase yesterday, im the oppersit to you and totaly need a seat for this bike, i remember a few lads round our way on pace Dmr and pashley framed trials bikes but i guess there are frames amongst the hordes out now with similar angles (I dont have Pace or Pashley money)

Hi,

I personally would go for either a 'Because Street', found at; http://www.tartybikes.co.uk/product.php?product_id=11000&category_id=14,

or a Rockman Switch found at; http://www.tartybikes.co.uk/product.php?product_id=11089&category_id=14.

With either of these you can have a seat, (which you'll want for long distances), and the geometry is Trials specific, so ideal for a bit of fun.

I would just get a comfy but streamline seat and a rear derailleur and you're ready to go!

Cheers, raoulduke.

The 'Because' is only £219.00 (pretty good value I think).

They both look sweet and good value not quite what im after. i could do with a seat that reaches my ass without too much bother.

Keep the ideas comeing, frame money is burning a hole in my pocket.

Love the name, Raoul! Fear and loathing on the trails-forum

Ah, I see your point!

Well, my friend and I started on Saracen hardtails (X-ile and X-ess to be exact), and we could do some pretty big stuff on them, we were both able to get up to a very good level of riding on them and enjoyed it. So I think your best bet would be a 14" hardtail which when I started was the norm, and there were a lot of good riders, ( the Martins, Akrigg, Tongue, Lenosky, Leech, etc...). Nowadays people say a certain frame is poor due to Geometry but back then the only geometry we looked for was frame size, (14" was good, 15" was bad), quite funny now.

Anyway I can't be any more help as I don't know the particular market you're looking in but best of luck and I look forward to finding out what you go for in the end!

Cheers raoulduke.

p.s. I really didn't expect the Fear and Loathing reference to get noticed so fast! I'd validate you just for that if I could!!

Then my suggestion would either be to wait till your validated and have a look on here in the classifieds till something comes up, or get a 24"

The ashton/diamonback effect looks spot on for what you're after, frame is only £209 and when it's built up its more than suitable for riding around with the seat up!
