p_ruskin
Hi, i snapped both my 05 magura levers today (in one move! ) so i have decided to try a front Vee, and invest in an old 04 magura lever for the back.. I am looking for ALOT of hold and a decent amount of bite/sound, but also not to go crazy on spending. So what are everyone's opinions on the best set up? pads, calipers, levers, cables ect. Cheers, Paul

Ashes. the sheer depth to how much you are wrong is hard to imagine! Vees are simply amazing! I rode rear vee for 4 years, they are more powerful than maggies, have MUCH more holding power and have another dozen reasons why they are better than maggies. A front vee is deffo the way to go, there is simply no reason why anyone should choose a maggie over a vee! Good choice on the lever, I would also recommend avid sd7 arms or shimano LX or XT. Get yourself some TNN pads and some decent cable too (shimano SP5 cable, we have some at Tartybikes if you ask for it). That will have amazing bite and hold. If Vee's are better, then why do so many people still buy Maggies?? It's got me thinking now. To vee, or not to vee.

I guess most people automaticly think vees suck because they have only ever used bad ones on cheap bikes. Also most bikes have maggie mounts so it is etra hassle and expence to get adaptors. People also think cables stretch (vees are usually as stiff as maggies) and get gritty (not if you get decent cable).

But I'm going vee on the front soon and have no money at the mo, so are the Shimano Acera calipers any good? For an extra £4/5 you could pick up a Deore/SD5 which would probably be a touch better bang for your buck, otherwise it's not uncommon to pick up some arms cheap on here/eBay etc. On the front it won't make such a huge difference as on the back though, so if you're really strapped for cash and need it fast so can't save the extra couple of quid then you could do a little worse. Make sure to lube it all up nicely when you install it and you'll be onto a winner
