Ross McArthur
My pal has a bit of rust on his left leg of his DJ3s. is there any safe way of getting rid of it?...without changing the stanchion itself.

Sam T
To get random bits of rust of my old forks, i used Brasso. Comes off with a bit of elbow grease. Think you can pick it up from Tesco. Not expensive and its safe Hope this helped, Sam
NVWOCI WVS
Brasso might be a good idea, but you need to be really careful around the seals. What's the extent of the rust? I think DJ3s are chromed on the stanchions(?), so if it's starting to rust now, it's going to rust more and more in the future, unless you coat it with an oily lube, or someting else to protect it. You don't want too much on though, as dirt and grit will get stuck to the oil, and potentially damage the selas/stanchions.
mr kenny
Yeah you can 'polish' the rust off but the damage is done, the dj forks have a plated coating on the stanctins and once they start to rust the seals run over it and they will die a slow death.... best thing do do is get some wire wool, wd40/ gt85 and work the rust away but id advise looking for new uppers or forks. they might last ages, they might not. Revolver
Brasso is just metal polish, any polish will do.
