Frames

Recommended Posts

Long and short refers to the wheelbase of the frame, the distance between then front and rear axles, its one measurement that makes up a light of common dimesions taken from a frame and generally termed the Geometry. Wheelbase will make a difference to how it rides, but there are many other aspects of the geometry that will make the bike ride differently.

Have a look at that, gives you a good basis on the difference between frames.

How long have you been riding for and where abouts in Bristol are you? Ride Bristol every now and again, so keep checking the rides thread for a Bristol ride and pop along.

Thanks for that

I live in a village called frampton cotterell on the outskirts of Bristol. I've only been riding a few months, but am not riding at all at the moment after buckling my wheel completely after mucking up a 4 and a 1/2 ft drop! Need to get A new one sorted asap

The long and short frames vary in the length of their wheel base. It's calculated measuring the distance between your front and rear hubs. Also, there is a bottom bracket rise characteristic, which is a vertical line rising from your wheel base measuring to the bottom bracket. The modern frames mostly have high rised BB, which makes a rider feel more comfortable on the rear and longer wheel base. The longer WB is - the larger your gaps and sidehops are, while the shorter base allows you to ride some kind of streety style, go 180/360 degrees tricks and bunny hops and so on.

You might wanna hang around with other trial riders in your area and try riding different bikes, shorter or longer, to decide which one suits you better.
