PeanuckleJive
I didn't go this year as i was on holiday but in my oppinion the location was poo. should make it more in the midlands next time, then its in the middle of everywhere. you didn't even go but you're complaining about it? everybody else was fine with travelling, that's part of the fun of a weekend away I'm well keen for tartydays 2011, same place with the same people, would be awesome
eep803
My two pennies worth. All good. Location - I'm glad its up in North Wales, I live here and am fed up with having to travel down south for everything and anything. Its nice to see a more mid to northern location. One thing I've not seen mentioned is the awesome riding done by the likes of Ali C. I'm lucky in that I get to ride with Matt (mintsauce) a fair bit, so as a beginner get to be inspired by some top (nearish the top, well sorta above middle, when his hand doesn't hurt, or hes got a bike that works . . . . ) level riding. Even then I was blown away by Alis riding, slick style, bold moves, tgsless and more modern progressive streety riding tricks. Making sure there are some top level riders there each day to inspire us beginner types would be great.
CalopS
I dont have anything else to add to what other people have said beside that i had a brilliant time and definetly want to come again next year. Please discuss this... NEW STUFF: 1. Live bands: Lives bands sounds great to me in the evening but not while riding. Could get a bit annoying + need quite a few bands to keep it interesting throughout the day. Adams ipod seemed to go down fine for a chilled atmosphere...........incubus 2. Public event: Dont see a problem with this if theres a barrier round the course like at Wood Fest. 3. Welsh Cycling Coaching: Could be cool, more people in trials is good for everyone 4. Comps: Speed Trials Would be awsome, easy to judge and less organising besides building the actual side by side track. If it was a public event it would go down well. Thanks again for your hard work over wood fest and tarty days matt! Hows your hand? Carl
Andy Vox
I really enjoyed it. Brilliant weekend. We rode Lake Ogwen on the Thursday which made things even better, although by Friday afternoon I was screwed. Location was brilliant, bbq was epic and general chill out in the evening was great. The only criticism I have would have been abit more begginer stuff was needed, but considering the amount you guys managed to do, especially when on thursday morning at 11am when we got there, there was little or no beginer stuff. You did a pretty awesome job. If its on again I would definately be interested, even if it cost more. Top job. Wish there was another one this year.... hint hint... end of summer :]
Simpson
On the live music front, I don't think it would have added anything to the weekend, what would have been IDEAL would have been to have a good soundsystem which people would stick there own MP3's and stuff into for during the day, and use at night (on restricted volume if needed) and some extra lighting for round by the bonfire at night. I dont think 1 fire is a bad idea could have helped people to mingle, I must confess that I left having not really met people that I didn't know before (obvious exceptions though)
psycholist
I was away on holidays for the past week and a bit, so only reading this thread now. I reckon the event couldn't have been a whole lot better run in terms of the facilities. Camping, catering and showers were all spot on. For anyone not interested in what was available on site from the catering, there were shops very close by anyway. I was expecting to have to sort out all my own food and it was brilliant to get food cooked for us. As for the course, it was very much a case that the riders with the sidehopping skills almost exclusively stayed on the trailer and the logs near it, while very few made any use of the balance beams, the logs around the back of the water gap and the digger tyres standing on edge, so a lot of the demo course doesn't seem to be what people were looking for (Definitely too big for me to try anyway). I don't think beginner obstacles are what people are looking for either, more stuff to ride that doesn't involve taking a big fall if it all goes wrong. I'm not a beginner on a trials bike, but the stuff I like is definitely more difficult than dangerous. As an example, make a whole pile of awkward balance beams a foot off the ground and I'll ride the shit out of it, put the same thing 3 or 4 feet up and there's no way I'd risk it... As for the location - I think it was excellent. The full way across Ireland plus 50 miles from the Holyhead ferry for me to get there. It would have been a lot more traveling for me if the event was in the South of England - I'd probably still have gone if there was less than 4 or 5 hours drive from the ferry. The location, manageable numbers and distance from houses meant we could make noise and have a laugh without annoying anyone else. One thing I noticed the second night was that the bonfire used for the BBQ was put almost directly under some electric wires running across the field, so that's something to watch for next time. Simpson
was that the bonfire used for the BBQ was put almost directly under some electric wires running across the field on the second night, so that's something to watch for next time. Yea our rival BBQ was right under the power lines! probably not the best idea. I loved the ballance beams but was really only me and the "top" riders I saw up there riding. (not saying I'm a top rider just I like a good olde bit of danger)
