Magnesium is added to enhance it's properties (along with a few other metals) to produce what's generally known as a magnesium alloy (even though, as I said, it's mostly aluminium). Nitromors is designed to attack paint not metal, if it was oxidative it would probably rust the crap out of steel frames, so it should be ok for your pedals.
