MikeCottTrials
Get something long, stick it up the bottom of your fork and SMASH it out p.s. use a hammer, not your hand
TROYston
Buy a star nut tool. They are life saviors.
Revolver
A tip for beating a star nut out backwards is to trash the star 'points', see if you can bend them up with a screwdriver and hammer. When I beat one out I ended up turning it on its side in the steerer tube lol, it took ages.

Revolver
Although, before you start, mind which forks you have. If the steerer tube gets really narrow at the bottom, it does have to go out through the top, but if it's the same width (probably not) then you can just beat it from the top and it'll come out much easier. forteh
If youre not bothered about the extra 15g, just leave the starnut in there and tap a new one in above it
