Krisboats
"is like buy bike Trial from $1300, and no use Helmet from $40 =P " I think this is the point that sparked off all the controversy. Using water is an aftermarket upgrade, that is all. Water is mostly free so it's just not one you purchase that is all. Grinding your rims, using softer, grabbier pads instead of maguras own pads and using echo cnc/RB levers instead of the standard ones are all upgrades to improve the brake and none of them are really sanctioned by magura. I think the manual says only to use magura branded pads as well but how many people use magura pads over koxx, echo etc? Oil is a good substance for most situations on the planet, from the sahara to the arctic at the expense of lever response. Water won't work in the arctic and may expand in warmer temperatures but if you can use it, it feels better without any immediate side effects. Besides, magura aren't exactly going to let on that water will probably work when they can say only use oil and only use THEIR Magura blood at 5-6x the price of LHM. Luke Dunstan
Hi, I made that video, I know things about these brakes and how they perform with water. You may as well not water bleed your brake if it's in warranty, but a lot of people don't mind and do it anyway. Common misconception is there is shit in a brake that will rust. It's not true, mine works fine water bled, all of mine have. Some people's levers develop a stiff master cylinder. This is rectified by pulling it out and lubricating it underneath that seal. Some people never have this happen to them either. Also, if you use antifreeze in there, it also won't destroy the seals. Otherwise my brake would be completely knackered. Water bleed if you like, it's good because it's free, it's easy, it won't kill your brake, and it can produce a quicker lever feel. Just water bled my maggies, cheers for the video!
