Theo
Hi there. I have Sony Vegas at the moment but I soon found that it can't handle the format my camera records in which is mp4. Could anyone reccomend any decent alternative software. Thanks

Revolver
I've used Adobe Premiere pro, that does HD. It's not free, or at least, it's not meant to be.
Daniel Gray
You may actually find its not the software but your computer that cant handle the HD. You could try other editing software, such as premier pro, or avid, or if your on mac try final cut.

This is true, I've got a cam that records in HD and my laptop hates it as it's a few years old and not hd compatible. Why not try converting the video from HD down to a smaller resolution, other than that I think it'll be an upgrade in computer thats required! Theo
sony vegas supports hd I think its the file type my cam records in. It's MPEG-4. Im going to give the Adobe one a bash if I cant convert it without loosing too much quality. It's a decent laptop, so I don't think (hope) an upgrade is needed. that NBR dude
It's a decent laptop, so I don't think (hope) an upgrade is needed. Look around the web for various codecs, they may help a bit, however I think a lot of your trouble is going to be the computer itself (especially if it's a laptop). Your asking a very basic GFX card to do a lot of work, which it can't cope with. My desktop used to struggle editing raw HD smoothly, and that was built specifically for the job. Thanks Try installing theK-lite codec pack with standard install settings (ie don't choose other options during the pressing next stages) Alternatively convert it all to AVI fist using TMPGEnc then import into vegas as an uncompressed AVI.
