Mark W
Armourdillo downtube protectors were super popular when they were around, but since their production ceased there's been a large gap in the market for a high performance down tube protector. Pro-Carbon Racing have created a lightweight solution to this problem - clip-on carbon fibre down tube protectors. Available in 2 sizes that fit a large variety of frames (e.g. Deng, Rockman (Mod and stock), Koxx Sky bikes, etc.), these protectors weigh a minimal 42g but provide great protection for your frame, as this video demonstrates: Sold as a 'kit' with the tube itself and 3 adhesive pads (should you need them - not required for most frames), these have been tested for several months by Stan and have held up incredibly well. Jamie_Trials
Wad thinking it would cost a lot, but £25 isn't bad, if I had a new frame i may consider one. Nice one

They will, but not particularly well... you'd have to zip tie it on really.
Sponge
Super useful! Scratches on a frame are not to worry about, but dents can be. from Sunday! BMX on their 3rd Wave frame, addressing dents: With bikes getting lighter and lighter, a lot of weight savings come from butted down tubes. Couple that with harder street riding than ever before and you have a problem. With material shaved from the area where you tend to hit your frame, you have created an area prone to dents. Denting your down tube may not ruin your bike at the moment, but the frame has been irreversibly damaged. Look at most frames with a cracked head tube weld and you will probably find a dented down tube. Enter the Wave. The butted Wave tubing used in Sunday frames has been proven to make your frame last longer. Fight the dents and extend the life of your frame enormously. All the more reason to buy! Mark W
Bearing in mind how paper-thin the downtubes on bikes are now, it's also a pretty sound investment for comp riders - seen quite a few dudes running some 'interesting' frame saving setups in the past few comps I've been at. These are stronger, lighter and work better for a pretty reasonable price. As Stan said yesterday when he hit his protector (again), it's a case of one-off payment of £25, or have to buy a new frame for £XXX sooner because you've battered it. Stan and I are pretty sure that after some of the hits he's given it, had it not been on his Orange Sky would be dead by now...
Ben Swales
Just ordered one of these - off with my ratty old Armourdillo! It's served me well (on three of four different frames) and I consider it a very sound investment, but it looks f*cked now!

Mark W
How well does it fit a hydroxx lt?

You'd probably need to use one of the adhesive tabs at the front, but for the most part it should fit alright. Ads put one on his and it seemed to be a reasonably good fit, just needs a bit of help staying put at the very front.

Mark W
Did you happen to try out how much hammering it could take before death? If you mean the guard, then it can take quite a bit. Ali absolutely battered his trying to break the zip-ties holding his early proto one on - took some gouges out of the carbon 'cos he was using a sharp rock at an angle, but that was hitting it really, really hard. Yes thanks for the feed back Sam Yes this item was frist the idea of British Champion Danny Butler he got Pro Carbon to make a number of proto types of which he then gave out to a number of top riders to test ie Ali C, Ben Slinger, Sam, Stan Shaw and Himself, and they all gave it a good old test and all of the above are still using it. So now the finished item is there for all on Tartys site. Thanks Dave
