Slick Rear Tyre?

I was looking at some bike pictures and saw lots of bikes with a slick rear tyre and i was like How do you get them like that and what are the reasons why you would do them like that?

i think its something to do with extra grip on railing and stuff

Just cut the side knobbles off of a worn tyre.

Hacksaws easiest and fastest, like a big one... Thats how I did mine.

If your on street and don't need to shed mud then its an easy way to get a slick wide tyre.

Only do it with a dead tyre though, don't go wasting good money on a scrubbed tyre.

an angle grinder with a sanding disk is apparently the way forward according to Andy b, but lets face it anyone who knows Andy knows how much he likes his angle grinder

It may be worth saving one side if you like your sidehops and rely upon a lot of grip from the edge tread to hold you on the wall.

I remember Matt Bird doing this, only that when he fixed a puncture he put his tyre round the wrong way and couldn't sidehop as high due to lack of grip.

or you could land on top of the wall

Slick tyres roll better and are more bouncy.
