forteh
Well my old faithfull RB is now leaking a fair amount, enough to require a top up bleed every 3 months or so. I put new o-rings in it about a year ago so they shouldnt be the main problem, Im guessing that the piston is just no longer tight enough tolerance for o-rings to retain fluid I have an old 04 maggie body (with the pivot bolt cracked so cant use that) and would prefer to keep the RB, is it possible to remove the piston from the maggie and use it in the RB cylinder? Failing that I will get a new piston made up from uhmwpe (ultra high molecular weigh polyethylene) which is self lubricating and get a decent lip seal on there Has anyone stripped a maggie lever to component parts to get the piston out? If so how? Beers in advance
Tony Harrison
You just unbolt the lever and pull it out, or remove the grub screw from the other end and use a small allen key to push it out from the inside.
forteh
You just unbolt the lever and pull it out, or remove the grub screw from the other end and use a small allen key to push it out from the inside. Must be the allen key push through then as it hasnt got a lever on at the moment and the piston aint coming out With a bit of luck it will be the same size as the RB piston and the seal will work with it. edit: magura piston is 14mm, RB piston is 13mm, obviously a no go so will have to get a new piston made up if I want to run a decent lip seal. I did notice that there was a fair amount of scratches on the bore of the RB in the 1st 3mm or so, Ive rebled it with the tpa wound in so that the o-ring seals arent running over the scratches and hopefully that should stop the weeping The smaller piston size gives a 1.1:1 ratio over the standard 04 magura, would explain why the RB produces such monstrous hold, especially with the 10% longer lever.
