Trials Helmet Advice

Hi,

Basically at the moment I have what some people call a Pee Pot (BMX HELEMT) and I want a new one, but most people wear the mountain bike hats.

What ones are good quality?

I know you can get the mountain bike style hat that comes further down your neck a bit for more protection, but I cant find them anywhere... anyone know where?

Here is picture of what I mean:

If you click more images you can see that where the back of your head part is, it comes down further than most bike helmets.

Obviously I could buy it from here, but I don't want to spend £70 on a helmet.

Thanks,

Danny.

Check out some of these helmets if your after something that has good cover for the back of your head.

The fox flux and the giro hex are the obvious ones that everyone thinks of but also check out the

Specialized Tactic Helmet

Giro Rift Helmet

661 Reacon Helmet

I hope that helped a bit.

Giro Xen is most commonly used among trials riders because it provides XC helmet comfort, but with more protection on the back of the head like a BMX pisspot.

However, these helmets are very expensive (one of the only drawbacks to them).

I went for the Uvex range, very similar to the Giro's and are quite a bit cheaper (£30 less I believe), fit amazingly and offer the same protection as the Xen. In some reviews they are even rated higher overall.

You can get them from anyone who deals with Raleigh, so if you ask a competent member of Bikehut they will be able to order one in especially for you.

The only thing that makes them not as good as the Giro's are the colour scheming, some of Giro's have lovely patterns and colours, but not enough for me to justify spending another £30 on one.

The model is the "XP", sometimes termed as the "XP100" and this is what they look like:

I quite liked the Recon! No info on weight though, looks quite a heavy one, sure a lot of protection on the back. And like that straps are from the sides of the helmet rather than top like Hex. I have a Giro Xen - realy comfortable but there isn't a lot of protection on the back and quite pricey, but 09 models are a lot cheaper now.

So long as you go for something along the likes of a Giro/Met/other recognised brand you should be fine in terms of quality, then it's just a question of finding one you like and making sure it fits well. There's no point having a lovely looking lid if it's not gonna protect your bonce should it all go tits up!

Nothing wrong with a pisspot though ;)
