You can give 'em a new lease of life with a stealth rubber sole I tried a pair of the 5ten ba5ics, the rubber is insane, they even pick up crap from the carpet. I imagine they'd work best on platform pedals though for the contact area. I stand on caged pedals with waffle Vans, perfect combo.
