Do I Need A Brake Booster?

trials owns

Recommended Posts

hello everyone,

i dont know much about trials bikes so hear it goes.I have recently got a new back wheel on my onza t bird and after a day i have noticed that my wheel wobbles slightly and all of the bolts are done up really tight, why is this? i did not notice it when i had my old wheel. do the wheel bearings need tightening more? or is it just the frame wobbling? and will a brake booster randomly help?

thanks for reading.

Bearings are shot or just loose, take the wheel out and feel for play in the axle

cheers mate if it is the bearings, will i be able to tighten the bearings on the bike?

sorry for the bother

What wheel is it?

its only a cheap wheel build with a onza t pro rear hub on a ronnie rear rim

If you're taking the wheel out to check, why does it need to be on the bike to adjust the bearings?

If they're sealed bearings, you probably need new bearings. If they're open then hopefully you just need to tighten the cones

I think they're unsealed hubs. In which case, take it off the bike, loosen the nuts on the ends on each side, then tighten the ones after them by hand.

They don't need to be silly-tight, just tight enough so the axle can move without any play.

Once you've done that, get a thin spanner (Argos bikes etc come with a shitty tool kit, which has ones the right size ;) ) and hold the cone whilst you tighten the nut up to it to lock it in place.

You might find yourself doing this quite often, I did and had no idea how they were coming loose when the wheel was always tight in the frame!

I bought a sealed hub in the end. ;)

Well a brake booster helps your frame. not wheels.

there should be a little bolt called a cone on the drive and non-drive side of the wheel. you will need to tighten or loosen that, it is very hard to get it perfect. i had this problem 2 weeks ago. put it in a bike shop is a good idea. wont even charge £5

Hard to do? It's ridiculously easy, you just tighten them up so that there's very little or no play in the axle but the axle can still turn

Replace your bearings then

Definitely not "ridiculously easy" I always have a load of hassle getting it perfect....

Have to agree with you there though! Sealed bearings are cheap as buggery anyway.... What hub is it?
