peggysue
search function reveals this yaaa.... the frame aint got no custom boss on it , so it needs to go through the frame dropout bolt then round the axle i been told... i suppose trial and error ... AdamR28
i suppose trial and error ... Exactly yeah, my first effort was useless, now done about 8 different variations and they get better each time
Mark W
so it needs to go through the frame dropout bolt then round the axle i been told... Basically, yeah. If you put the threaded end through you can put a nipple on the end to hold it in place. Alternatively, you can make a little hooked U-shape out of the end of the spoke and have it hook onto the edge of the dropout. Other than that, just make the coils nice and neat, and wrap it anti-clockwise. A pair of pliars makes bending the end of it really easy too, compared to just doing it by hand. Try and be neat with where it hits the chain too, 'cos if it's rubbing on the side plates of the chain it'll just cut through the spoke over time. peggysue
my second attempt was better, good tension but not neat enough , aint got time to try again now so ill leave it to my mate tonight , see how he has done it ! cheers anyways

Mark W
...so you wouldn't bother getting a tensioner that's smaller, lighter and provides plenty of tension at a fraction of the cost of a normal tensioner? You'd prefer to be able to bend mech hangers, tensioners and so on? Right.

Right. just seems a bit of a bodge, to be honest. metal rubbing against metal, sound horrible and will wear out wouldnt it?? wouldnt you be making them and selling them if they were that good? Mark W
Mine, when I ran it, was totally silent and ran silky smooth. It also lasted fine. It's sitting on the rollers of your chain, so it's no different to your chain going over your sprocket in terms of metal-on-metal contact. The reason we don't sell them is that there's thousands of possible frame, sprocket and hub combinations out there, and each one needs to be custom made to fit that setup. Dan Clark
Decided that there's no room on my Marino dropouts to accomodate this in any way, sucks
Mark W
There is, trust me (Adam, cos Mark's stolen my PC...)
Dan Clark
I can't see where I could make something for the spoke to wrap around, not a Marino obviously, but the dropout looks very similar to this: No obvious place to drill a hole for a boss, and I have no idea how it's supposed to wrap around the axle given that there's no room on that at all. tmusson
I can seem to get enough chain rap on my 16t rear freewheel when trying a spoke tensioner
AdamR28
I (Mark) ran a 13t sprocket on the back of my bike and got plenty of chain-wrap. Can't you get an extra link out, maybe?
peggysue
his chain is as short as possible.... the spoke tensioner just pushes half the chain off the freewheel and skips because of chain wrap...back to the roholf for tom now
ogre
if only he ran a proper gear ratio.... also super mega turbo ace pull up spoke tentioner, ***.... for happy chain wrap..
