FINDUS
Hi guys I'm confused about my stem and bar combo. i have a hope stem http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=6285 and rockman bars http://www.tartybikes.co.uk/product.php?product_id=10779 both say 31.8 over sized . mine don't fit!! I have had other bars in the stem and it works perfect but these two together will not work, all i get is a horrid creaking noise and movement back and forth. i have undone all bolts, cleaned and re-clamped back together and still no joy bars work in my DH 31.8 clamp so neither are defective! Is this me missing something really simple? please help! Edited March 27, 2010 by FINDUS
AlexxRogers
Could it be your headset rather than your bar and stem? That could cause the creaking, and the back and forth movement. Alex.

Borat
Chris you little slut. File a little bit off of the clamp part (the bit you remove) so there is no paint left on it(you wont see the lack of paint, seeing as though it is ment to clamp down. Well, before you do that, get a picture up for us/me to see. !

If i take paint off it will make the gap bigger still! so whats the point in that?? you wont see anything from a pic as it looks just fine it looks the same when i put other bars in but with no movement. The gap being bigger, meaning it can be done up more and/or tighter.

ogre
whats the point it's an anodised stem? have you tried other bars the stem? if theres a mistake with the stem hope should be sound sorting you out. ring the tarts?
davey1991
Dmr bars came with a shim to allow you to use them with certain stems, you could attempt to make one with a Coke can or something thicker if required. Good old Coke cans.

Other bars work perfect. I might try tarty on monday Dmr bars came with a shim to allow you to use them with certain stems, you could attempt to make one with a Coke can or something thicker if required. Good old Coke cans. This was my last option as the bar and stem are perfect for me, i think i will use a tango can, it has to be apple how the hell does that work? Im glad im not the only one confused by taking a file to the stem, my thinking is i need to make less of a gap by using shims or metal from tango apple can to close the gap
Mark W
how the hell does that work? Theoretically, if the clamp is bottoming out (as in the face plate is touching the stem's body before it's tightened the bars down), then by increasing the gap between the two by removing material it should allow it to clamp more. Leistonbmx
He only said to take the paint off. And if that was happening, it'd mean the bars are too big.
