Not even close to 2k, it'll be around that when it's finished. 2 grand for some panel beating is the most ridiculous price I've heard in my life.

edit: and painting of course.

Oh come on.... £2,000 (and obviously talking £s here because that's what his 2k is) has not bought you that car and had all the work you've done to it. Granted, you may well be getting a bargain or whatever but that has not cost £2k for car, engine, fabrication, paint, blah blah. Don't get me wrong, I'm in awe of what you're doing with that car it's just I can't stand blatant lying.

Dude, is this for the shitty grey one? No offence but that car is such a pile inside i wouldn't worry about a slightly bent panel on the outside. I mean, you can't even lock your glovebox! Like suggested spray it satin marks won't show as easily on t. If it's bent so it won't stay popped out put a brace on the back?

I've got loads of paint at home and i'm getting very good at finishing and sanding with rattle cans now so i can give you a hand with that no problem. I've got all the sand paper, cloths, cans, lacquer etc already and it'd only take a few days spread over a few weeks to do it ourselves.

And as you asked, the Mini has cost me almost £18 000 so far, and I don't regret a single penny!

Apart from that gret sodding webber and mental head tongue.gif

Whoever came up with 2k for panel beating and a lick of paint needs there head pulling out there arse. Tobias has a slide hammer? Ask if you can borrow that. Ooooor there only about £20 quid for a cheapo thing but it'll come in handy time and time again.

What exactly was the £2000 quote for? Panel beating, prep and paint? Isolated around the rear quater or the whole car?

It was for full external restoration. Both rear quarters, both doors, both front wings, 4 fully rolled arches and a back to metal respray. Most of the cost, they said, would be going into pulling out the swage line. I know people keep saying get a hammer blah blah, but it's beyond that, the swage has been creased back to almost flat and rippled and the panel has become really felxible.

Why would they spend 'most' of £2000 on labour pulling out a dent in a panel, when you could just buy a whole new panel, for maybe worst case scenario, f£300 from VW, and then weld it in in about a day. blink.gif

Will the 2k of work add 2k to the value of the car?

If not, quick answer, no.

If not, slightly longer annswer, no, sell the car. Get another one that doesn't need the work.

Its easy to get attached to a car which might make you not wanna sell it, but screw it, its just a car at the end of the day.

Theres a great many number of cars on here that are modified and loving restored to there former glory and quite literally thousands have been spent without a bad word said so why am I become a target for negativity?

You started a thread asking if it was a good idea?

But really, pissing £2k away into a £500 car is the stupidest idea I've heard in a while, you could get a new straight shell for a fraction of that, or £2k's worth of something mightier than a 'rocco!

Whether the replies in this thread are arseholeish or not, not one person in 2 pages has said it's even a slightly good idea, including a handful of old VW lovers. Surely that's gotta count for something..? Why ask for an opinion then completely ignore it?

Anyway, sort the bigger dents and crap out and i'll flock the whole car for a quarter of the cost of a respray B)
