MadManMike
Evening! Just wondering if the following products are suitable for each other, as I have a feeling I've got stuff wrong. Also, anything I've forgotten? He's gonna be buying a soundcard seperately so that's no issue. Case Ram Hard Drive Power Supply Motherboard And then two choices for processors... Cheaper Worth the extra? Have I missed anything there? I'm assuming the last processor is best if he can stretch to it? Cheers for any help! Mike. Mikey-uk
First thing I noticed... You chose DDR2 ram and a DDR3 motherboard... I'd go with this ram instead, 1600mhz memory is INCREDIBLY fast and its near enough the same price as what you linked... Both of those processors are good although if he can stretch for the more expensive one DO IT, it will last you a good 2-3 years before you even need to THINK about doing an upgrade. That hdd is terrible... Should be aiming for 32mb cache and 7200rpm MINIMUM. This is not much more expensive and will be ALOT faster, trust me. Honestly what is the point in having a powerful cpu + ram + hard drive system with an on board graphics controller? That'd be like buying a ferrari engine and putting it in a peice of shit car, sure its fast but visually it looks terrible. Ask him how much he'd stretch for a graphics card - Again, only ATI for this, Most cards price matched to nVidia have better benchmarks. Let me know what his budget for a gpx card is and get back to me.

Hence why he's getting seperate expensive audio equipment. This guy will never be watching films or playing games, trust me Thanks for the advice about DDR3 ram too, I'll look into that! Assuming I go with the ram & hd you recommended, can you think of anything I've missed? (Even small things like internal cables)

(Even small things like internal cables) All internal cables should be included, if not when you're installing the pc you'll notice which are missing and they should only be £2-3 each off some random sites. I'd probs change that case to be honest, it looks huge for what is being put in there plus it looks kinda tacky... This looks clean and comes with a 500w psu or this case.. These both look better (imo, its up to you / your customer though) and come with a psu making it work out cheaper.
ZeroMatt
Generally you're asking for trouble using a psu that comes with a case, especially one that cheap.

He asked for that case - everything else was left up to me I've built a few computers before, but it's been from scraps laying around, seeing as he's giving me cash to build a new one I just want to check it all looks good. By the sounds of it, it's game on!

Muel
Definately need a 7200RPM HDD there Mike, I have an AM3 based computer with a 965BE and it's definately that which is limiting it. I would get a better PSU aswell, probably a Corsair, and definately try to get modular, I'm so annoyed that I didn't. As for the CPU, I'd go with the Athlon personally, or stretch to a 955BE C3. The 945 has a locked multi so you can't overclock them as easily.

He's never gonna need to overclock it though, I have a worse processor than that and mine has never been maxed up doing music production. I agree with the hard drive and PSU though, will look into that.

Seriously, my case is horrible to look at inside and all the spare cables restrict air flow a bit too.
MadManMike
Well it's all built, guess what... The RAM is the wrong type. I need DDR3. Is this really just for Intel i7's??? RAM I need it to work with a Phenom II and can't see why it wouldn't work?!
Muel
Because that's triple channel, and you need dual channel for a Phenom II. (2 sticks not 3).

Muel
Could do if you're that way inclined...
MadManMike
I'm just thinking he may want to take the 4gb route later, so it seems easier to do it this way Cheers for your help dude!
