Mikey-uk
Heya, FINALLY sorted everything out for a rear vbrake and I've come accross a problem... I'm hoping it can be fixed? Pictures will show whats wrong.
Matthew_Gibson
is it a mod? think thats the problem, the mounts have to be moved up
Mikey-uk
Yeah its a mod. I was thinking of adding another link onto the chain but then I have the problem with setting up the pads
LukasMcNeal
Yeah its a mod. I was thinking of adding another link onto the chain but then I have the problem with setting up the pads The only way to really get around it is to get some of the oldish heat sink adapters which have higher or lower mounting holes. Thus putting the brake higher and then it won't rub. If not you'll probably have to put another link in and try to set up the pads. Apart from that I can't really see another way around it IMO. The very first picture quite clearly shows that he's running SD7s. Mods with vees are a bitch, unfortunately. If you could get hold of the newer Heatsink Bikes adaptors then it'd sort you out though (www.heatsinkbikes.com)
Mikey-uk
Damn you Luke selling me the old adaptors xD to be honest, new chain link, different adaptors etc still make setting up a hassle. I think the only thing I could do is get longer arms :/ Damn
Luke Rainbird
If I knew you were going to be running them on a mod I'd have mentioned it Different adaptors are no more hassle? Fit and forget component and the Heatsinks would give you in the region of another 10mm which should be more than enough to sort out your issue Otherwise another link in the chain might be enough (would slide your wheel back 12mm, if the pads can still reach the rim you're onto a winner)

Muel
Looks to me that the arms are at this kinda angle. \ / If you put thinner spacers in between the pads and the arms then the arms will be more | | like that, and the cable will be higher. If you also move the mounts right to the top it might sort it. EDIT: Also could do better with a 90 degree noodle to stop the cable being pushed down to the tyre. Skoze
Proof if ever it were needed that mods are gay.

I still have about 2ft extra cable to cut down so it looks like more fun times.... Yay ¬_¬ Edit* It is a 90degree noodle... It's some new style flexy noodle though, giving it a try out. Luke Rainbird
You realise the best solution would be to replace the rest of the bike with one the right size, right?
Mikey-uk
The only stock i've ever gotten on with was a Neon Bow from oxford and I cant afford anything like that even with a swap. Never really tried a 24" and again... I have no money
Alex Dark
Proof if ever it were needed that vees are silly
Luke Rainbird
The vee itself is perfect, mods are just a little deformed which leads to issues like this
Brisa
I'm fairly sure the Shimano Deore arms such as this CRC Link have slightly longer arms than normal. Could be worth a punt, chances are your local bike shop will have a set laying about you could try.
Borat
Your cable isnt slotted into the noodle properly, and you need to bend the noodle, to a 9degrees angle mate. If not, and I have cash to go, I'll sort it in reading, sunday?
craigjames
I had this issue on my stock when i was running a vee and a big rear tyre like a rubber queen, the new heatsink adaptors sorted the issue for me nicely; simple solution that works a treat
Revolver
You talk of adding a link... why not add a single halflink?
Luke Rainbird
You talk of adding a link... why not add a single halflink? 6mm would still be preeeeeeetty close and would probably still interfere, at a guess. Still...
Mark W
If he set it up properly (which it isn't in that first pic...), then it might be enough.
Canardweb
I had exactly the same problem! Only solution: bend your noodle a bit like that: http://www.tartybikes.co.uk/images/large_avid135.jpg Edited March 12, 2010 by Canardweb
Ali C
kinda pernament, but you could drill out the lower 4bolt hole and tap it to fit an m8 vee pivot post. I have done this on my bike, brake is perfect, its lighter and easier to set up brakes plus it looks a whole load neater.
