Borat
Easy guys, I was talking to Stew about my idea in oxford on sunday, as I loved the Ride last year, but sadly it's the last year. Basically, I Sue doesn't wan't to use the football grounds because of insurance, hire fee's etc, but why not have a street ride in Abingdon because from what I have heard, it's pretty good and we can also visit the garden. Or we could do it in oxdford? I know there is the pompy ride, but I would just have liked to throw this idea around, to see what people say, if they'd come etc. I'm thinking such weekend as June 6th? I know it's only a brief explaination, but I would like some feedback and going to PM Sue about this. Please, ALL feedback appreciated! Jack. quick_spider
Abingdon is a little small for street, especially if there are lots of people. Oxford isn't a bad bet, but Swindon & Bristol are more suited to larger groups.

Rich Pearson
Such a shame Really gutted I missed the last DJ ride in the football grounds... Yeh could be on Jack, just a bit far for us southern guys...we'll see though I guess The distance is immaterial in terms of what going there actually means. I'd also like to point out that last years ride wasn't the last because of money or anything else like that. Having spoken to Sue and Charlie on the day, I'd say the reason's for not running the event again came much more from the heart than the wallet. Whatever happens I'm in, although I'd agree Abingdon is pretty small for a lot of riders. Rich
Borat
Yeah, I get all of what everyone is trying to say here. I have pm'd Sue, with the topic link etc, it's not like I would organise this ride without them knowing etc. Plus I'm not exactly organising a ride, just putting a quite early notice, so people give ideas etc.
Skoze
Another "that's not the reason it was the last for a while" vote. Whatever happens i'll be there, but give it some thought and speak to Sue/ Charlie/ Sam first before organising something. In all honesty, is there really any need for two street rides? I'm sure that's come across as sounding harsh, but the Pompey one's always been the street ride, Abingdon for the "proper" memorial, i don't see any real need to replace that with yet another street ride which is seemingly only connected by a name you've slapped on it? Nick Manning
I think having a ride in memory of DJ is a good idea. However I do not agree with it being held in Abingdon. On the day of DJ's funeral we were given permission for the mass of rider's to ride at a slow pace down the streets to the church, it was on the understanding that we didn't ride any trials in Abingdon during the day, other than at the football ground. I think organising a group ride for DJ in Abingdon would be disrespectful towards all those that helped out on that sad day and were kind enough to accommodate us in their town. I think the best bet would be a ride in Oxford, ( though the security is probably still a problem) then pop down to Abingdon after or to start with to view DJ's garden and pay your respects. forum mum
Hi Guys I have been thinking seriously on how to respond to this topic. Firstly I would like to say that the decision we made last year was NOT due to any financial costs which we incurred we would have gladly continued to support the Memorial Ride at any cost. We as a family decided that last year would be the last official Memorial Ride here in Abingdon as we felt that most of the people who used to ride Trials with DJ have stopped riding, whether it be due to work comitments, injuries or just having moved on in their lives. So we made a conscious decision to end the event on a high note with those who remembered a true friend (and those who we have lost since) coming together in his memory. That is not dismissing anyone who may of heard of our son through trials since he was taken away, it is great to see that the Trials community continues to grow. Charlie and I feel that it is now time for us to grieve in private as DJ's death was so high profile that we haven't thought of our needs until now....so we do hope you will ALL understand. We did think if there is going to be a ride in Portsmouth this year we thought we might attend for the day , that is if you will have us? For those of you who do decide to come down to Oxford/Abingdon in June you would be most welcome to pop down to the garden at Fitzharry's school, and even pop in to see us at home. Thinking of you all Love Sue x
Borat
Thank you so much for the replie Sue and In no way did I want this topic to give off a bad impression and I wasnt trying to reply that it was down to financial issues. It's just I loved last years ride so much and thought it would have been good to continue it in some way, but I didn't really think about the Pompy ride. I will deffo be attending that and would love to see you and Charlie there. x
forum mum
Hello again, Charlie and I were looking to come down to Portsmouth this year for the annual DJ Memorial Ride in May, but there doesn't seem to be anything being organised as usual. could someone please let me know if there have been any plans made? We know that some of you are disappointed that there isn't going to be an official ride here in Abingdon this year, but we have explained our reasons and hope you all understand. Hope to hear from someone soon as we need to make the necessary arrangements like getting time off work etc. This could be an opportunity for you to support us with the fund raising we are continuing to do to support the planting of the memorial garden, we still have plenty of T-shirts with the FBM bunny logo on for sale. Thanks for taking the time to read this. God Bless Love Sue x
