Hs33 Bleed Water?

Recommended Posts

yup!

feels way nicer than the magura blood

there's a lot of debate over wether it really does ruin your brake, I imagine if you keep it properly lubed it'll be reet

Some people use antifreeze and water to stop their system freezing in winter, others use pure water. Prepare for the chaos in this thread :P

could i just use a bottle of coolant which is water and antifreeze?

To be fair, you shouldn't really have to worry much about freezing from now until next winter, fingers crossed!

Water is fine, but I wouldn't say it's way better.

You need to try a properly water-bled Magura then, you'll see the difference ;)

Last summer, I hit the brake (hope mono) when I was riding and some oil spilled out. I used orange lemonade to fill it again. There was nothing better around. I was lazy to bleed the brake properly afterwards, so the orange lemonade stayed there for about two months. No damage happend. Now I am using water and it seems ok. However antifreeze is necessary in the winter.

Don´t trust people who say that water is evil. They drink it every day and are still among us:lol:

You used orange lemonade to bleed a brake which has Dot fluid seals? And are now using water in a disc brake that uses Dot fluid seals?

Yes. But I want to say that the intention of that comment was not to persuade others to do the same thing. Just wanted to show that the other liquid in a brake doesn´t mean an immediate disaster. Personally, I am still worried about the seals, still checking all potential signs of demage, but after months there aren´t any. Magura mineral oil can damage the Dot seals in a few hours (experienced that). How long can it take to water? I will see.

Sorry for a stupid question, but what is the advantage of using water over oil. I would like to know as I have just started on trials and recently flushed and bled my brakes with new oil, what a mess I made

Trying to think of some possible advantages I came up with;

. Quicker response as water is thinner than oil.

. Feel is better as water is less compressible than oil.

. Environmental water is better for the environment.

. Cost water is cheaper than oil ;)

My problem is I don't want to drain the brakes and then fill them with water only to find that there is no advantage and I could have left it until the system needed doing anyway.

So I am after experiences of people who have tried it.
