My Perfect Bike

Here are photos of my perfect bike. I say it is perfect because I won't change anything on the bike now.

That bike is damn light: 8.3kg !! That's because I have a magnesium DOB front rim and DT spokes on the front (my front wheel is 642g complete!!), magnesium pedals, light Viz rear rim and a V-brake on the front (best ever front brake) with Coust! pads in V-backings from Heatsinkbikes (thanks to Steve). I am back to a rear maggie with a perfect lever feel and original Coust! pads provided by Michel. Indeed, I found that the bite of that brake makes me feel more comfortable on the bike than th hold of a rear V-brake.

Now you might ask yourself: "Why the hell does he posts some pictures of his bike as it is not brand new?"

That's because I couldn't find some work and because I had loads of financial problems. And so, I had to sell my bike to get some money. But now I am so happy, because yesterday morning, I found a JOB!!!! Hopefully no one wanted my bike, so, I could keep it. I know it might not interest you, but I would have been so sad if it had to go. I am sooooooo HAPPY now! :) :) (Y)

Now some pictures of me riding it. Thanks to my mother for these photos. (These are one of her first trials pictures, but I think they are really good!)

Gap (did it!)

tap to rear wheel (did it after several tries)

Simple pedal hop

p2210111.jpg

Pedal hop then gap... gap... gap (I did seven and got tired... :giggle: )

p2210112.jpg

Sidehop to rear wheel then gap... gap... (did 4 of them)

Thanks for looking!

I want to thank my mother who always supported me, my brother who pushed me, and all of you who made me discover a sport that I love and that I would not quit after one year (like other sport I made... :shifty: )

EDIT: For those who will notice, my chain is not tensionned a lot, but that is how I ride, I feel like it gives me more spring! Btw, Gilles does the same (and got me into it...). And YES! I wear Spandex.

is that a tartybikes stem?

Yes it is! I have it since last summer! It is great and doesn't show any signs of tiredness.

I can suggest a change:

more chain tension :P

Looks lush and clean. I like it.

I edited my first post... Have a look! Thanks a lot!

Rear coust pads?

I am back to a rear maggie with a perfect lever feel and original Coust! pads provided by Michel.

So yes... And believe me, if you get them from Michel, these are the best pads on earth, in one year this is just my second pair. And you should see my brake (or hear it...). I am known as a brake maniac: my brakes must be noisy, they must feel solid at the lever, and they have to hold great - Mission accomplished (I spend sometimes 30 minutes setting my brakes though...)

Wow great bike mate, You have actually got the exact same helmet as me it's the 2010 Giro Hex. turned.gifafro.gif

Yeah, my mom offered it to me for my Christmas. These helmets look so nice, thanks to Kieran for advising me!

VERY clean looking bike, very simple and nice, sooo light too!

there are some parts that I would not use, but if it works for you then why not.

also not convinced about a slack chain, why not just run a freewheel with fewer engagements and have a chain that will last longer?

It's just my way to see things. Before I had problems with my hs33 and my pads were braking on the tire, so I had to ride with a really slack chain, worse than what I have here. Since then, I found that it gives me more spring so I keep riding as it is... What parts would you not use apart from the rear hs33 Ali?

You could fit a 74kings style tensioner, but it sounds like you like it slack (and a loose chain ;) )

I think I would personally have different tyres, I know light ones make a bike feel nice, but once you ride anything not flat the lack of grip and stability really shows.

My front tyre is not especially grippy but for street riding it's more than enough!

My rear tyre is so grippy though, nearly as much as the Kaiser. As it is a tubeless tyre, the sidewallss are much wider than a normal tyre so it gives plenty of protection against pinch flats. As a proof, I have ridden as a serious basher last session, and everybody was wondering how I could not pinch. I was gapping on a sharp edge...

After a bit more than a month with nearly a ride each days: no flats. That tire simply rules! I wish I could tell the same of my front tyre. If I miss a tap, I pinch flat with it might get a Schwalbe front tire soon
