Cheers for all the feedback positive and negative again fellas, I've passed it along, seems like the main issue with why people wouldn't use it is because of the look or weight. I can totally see this point and pointed this out to the maker who said "Some people say that they are hefty an ruin a bikes aesthetics, but I think most use them just to practice new tricks until they get it sorted or at comps, but take them off when street riding and show boating". I think he'll still be taking the feedback all on board to see if he can modify it to increase the demand.

Personnally I know as a single parent on benefits (thankyou tax payers) I'd rather use one as I can't always afford to replace a frame and need them to last as long a possible, but like trying new things like rails etc.

Trials frames aren't antiques, they don't need looking after.

from that point, fair enough.....im only quoting others and going by what ive read.

ive not been doing trials for long enough to know from experience whether any distortions in the frame would create weak areas more prone to breaking.

edit* and if indeed it turns out that the dents very rarely put a frame out of action, it nulifies a large amount of comments made throughout this thread...making the armadillo almost purely for asthetics for most people

Any dent weakens a frame, but yeah, unless you're going straight to daaaaahntube on a rail (I'm looking at you, Anal) you should be reasonably alright.

Whoops.

Here's my frame with a dent.

Here's what it would have looked like if I had been using an Armourdillo

I would of been the first to suggest the chainstay type armadildo's but been banned so couldn't post :P

I wouldn't use a downtube one just because of the looks being so fugly and shiz.

And the colour wouldn't match to some bikes..

But chainstay ones would be brilliant, the ones from tarty work from chain slack or anything but the amount i killed my old zona chainstays from sidehoping.

I would buy that one.

I'm not being funny but what frame actually is put out of action from dents on the downtube?

Armadillos just protect the aesthetics, so your point is null

My coustellier V1 is cracked directly from a big downtube dent. Still wouldn't run an armordillo though...rather make something that looks cooler and works better :)

the same thing happend to me, my frame dented when i was gappin a rail. i fell of the gap short of the gap and landed on the downtube on the rail impacted so hard the tube folded and cracked /fractured were the crease is ....... if i had a armourdillo the dent going so deep

i think there a sick idea i would happily £30 for one not £15, not everybody can just replace a frame when it gets dented to shit and cracks everyone i ride with saves up for months to get our new frames then after that we have them for a long time we, cant just afford to bash them up so sometimes we are hesitant to try certain gaps just incase we f**k the frame but if we had one of these we would all be much more confident and as a result our riding would improve

plus theres talks going on that you might be able to get them in colours and customized logos i think they would look pretty good

It seems a bit odd that you'd not try something just because you thought you might damage your bike doing it. I know the position you're in 'cos I saved for 6 months to buy my first T-Bird back in 2000, but when I got it I just wanted to ride it 'cos that was the point. It broke in the end, as all frames will, and I just saved up and bought a new one. If you keep an eye out on the second hand market you can usually grab a bargain, so you don't have to buy new. But yeah, it does seem weird to not be trying moves or be worried about doing them on the basis that you might damage your bike.

its not that we arent pushing ourselves when were riding its just that in the back of our minds we always think if we mess this up we might have to pay money and be out of riding for a couple of days or possibly even weeks if we break something expensive, (im sure were not the only ones that worry about it) so therefore any sort of protection for any part of the bike in my eyes is a good idea and i would definatley buy one.

i've never broken a frame, i'm 17 stone :P i'm not delicate about riding either. i don't get how your putting such knarly dings in frames, it's not hard to know somethings going tits up so you can start to unweight the bike + reduce frame death... i do like the idea of heavy duty chain stay guards though!

well none of us have been riding particulay long and were trying to learn poles and hopping across the bike rack things (probably the coolest looking trick EVER!!! ) so thats why we are all after them and if we have even some small dents in the frame its goingg to affect the resale price

Ok a rough weight measurement for the original design just came through (apologee's but only old scales available and this is what I've been told but will confirm myself on modern scales as soon as I can) and it's at 9 oz so roughly 255 grams.

Of course if someone has one handy and a set of modern scales It would be great to see what they come up with (Y)

everyone is being silly to be honest is there anything wrong with people not wanting to smash up a frame while were learning tricks?.. yes ok you will fall off and scuff the frame thats always going to happen, you have to deal with it, but when we are learning tricks i would rather be safe in the knowledge that my frame has some sort of protection on it.
