Revelation
I'm trying to replace the TNN pads I have. According to the instruction, I have to throughly clean the backing with acetone before I push it in, then it tells me to use Loctite glue thing to hold the pad in place. However, I dont have the Loctite right now but I do have the Krazy glue (www.krazyglue.com) And I'm wondering if I can use the Krazy glue instead of Loctite. And any other advices on installing the refill? is the cleaning really needed?.. it doesnt seem that dirty to me. I do NOT want the pads to be moving around when riding. Heatsink
Looking at the Krazyglue website it says it's a type of Cyanoacrylate glue, this type of glue often referred to by people as "Superglue". Apparantly the most popular brand of Cyanoacrylate glue in America? The Loctite glues are also Cyanoacrylate glues. The Krazy glue site makes lots of bold statements about how strong it is, without putting any numbers on it. Who knows if it's as strong a Loctite, but it looks a promising candidate for you to try. Of course, you do so at your own risk though (legal disclaimer!) The Loctite glues are intended for Industrial applications so give detailed datasheets on strength in various conditions. Always nice when making a product available in mass production. For another perspective on pad refill fitting you can read the Heatsink guide: HSB pad refill fitting guide It's worth cleaning before with Acetone to remove lumps of old glue. The biggest tips are to use a vice and do a test fit of the pads into the backing before you apply the glue. Nothing worse than the pad going in wonky because of a lump of glue left in the backing. You have to then pull it apart and spend alot of time trimming dried glue off! Of course being pedantic, if you vary from the specific manufacturer's instructions then they can always turn you away if you encounter problems! So you'll have to digest the various recommendations and then make up your own mind about what to do Steve
Mark W
The glue doesn't need to be super strong to hold it in, so I'd have thought CrazyGlue would've been fine. I had to do a ride with only a really small amount of poo non-branded glue to hold my pad in and it worked fine. The TNN refills seem to sit quite far into the pad backings so they should do a pretty good job of staying in even if that CrazyGlue isn't 'official' Locktite.
