Guantanamo
Changing to v brakes on the rear of my bike now, and was wondering which calipers to go for? sd7s seem very popular, but what about shimano brakes? are the avid ultimates worth the hefty price tag? bearing in mind i don't want to have to keep buying bits and pieces for the brake as bits break Thanks Adam Edited February 18, 2010 by Guantanamo
Mikey-uk
Hi going Vbrake on my marino fourplay. does any one know if this lever will work with avid sd7s? Thanks Ad It will work but why not just get the sd7 speed dial lever? Its got somthing similar to a tpa for fine adjustment and costs less. Why would i not get enough power? long lever and if it's set up ok then surely it'd be ok?

Leistonbmx
Exactly. BMX's don't need a lot of holding power.

aener
The SD7's on CRC are like... £18 a pair, and they're graphite. (ALMOST black) Work real well, as good as makes no difference fit the color scheme, and are good'n cheap. Can't see why you'd want anything else. Mark W
Exactly. BMX's don't need a lot of holding power. They do, but that's not really the point - they have a different leverage ratio compared to V-brake levers, so it wouldn't work too well. Just stick with standard V-brake levers, there are plenty to suit your budget/needs!
Alex Dark
sounds fair, can always take em apart on put some paint on. Thanks New ones are bastards to get apart....the old ones were circlipped in place. My vote goes for XTR levers, but they are damned expensive

Ali C
they pull less cable than vee levers and so actually give more power but also feel like shit (real spongy). Get an avid, best levers by far!

Guantanamo
I love the fact that you don't know how to use google. Of course i do, just looking for people's experience. But yes, looking on line seems to be sd7 calipers and levers is the setup.
davey1991
SD5, SD7. With an avid FR5 or SD7 leaver. Shimano deroe, XT or XTR, with same leavers. XTR leavers are amazing for disks, never tried them with vee's.
