JT!
My wife decided to rescue a fish from work that they were going to flush. It's not too lively but it has a wound on it's ass. Any idea how to save it? Edited February 17, 2010 by JT!

T-BAD
looks like a common case of fish rape...
Si-man
Salt baths. Have a read up, looks like an ulcer that's popped that. Keeping it in a bowl wont help either. Edited February 17, 2010 by Si-man
Tom Booth
Just keep it in clean water, mixed with some water treatment to keep infection away and you will be fine. He needs a bigger tank thou dude, something like 20gallon+ should be a minimum atleast. Keep good filtration too. I know it sounds abit extreme for fish she just wanted to save, but if/when he heals up, he'l need somewhere rather large to live in.... Haz
You need decent water, some flour, a pinch of baking powder and a deep fat fryer...
JT!
Did the salt bath for 5 mins, seems a little more active. I'll do that every day and see what happens.

I'll do that every day and see what happens. poor fish you would be active too if you had a cut and had it stuck in salt water. must be in pain. was it with other fish? looks like a bite. or as said above fish rape this link is good. http://www.afbini.gov.uk/adds-fishulcerdiseasedec05.pdf look at the treatment part. i tried with my fish and the salt bath failed with both bites and ulcers, he needs a vet for antibiotics.
