benthedog
My friend is thinking about starting trials, I don't know how tall exactly he is but he is very tall. Over 6 foot I'm guessing. Anyway I've came to the conclusion that you can buy mods for a lot less than stocks, correct me if I'm wrong. He doesn't have much money so i was wondering how tall is too tall to be riding a mod.
Skoze
I'm 6' 3" and i've never felt comfortable on a mod, even when i started riding 4ish years ago when i was a fair bit shorter. And mod's are god awful things anyway Have a look around, you can build a stock on a budget!!!
DannyBazz (:
My mate is 6"4, and rode a monty perfectly well. He sold that though... And bought a stock
Birre
Im 195cm and been on a mod almost my whole life:)
BenJohnson
I am about 6'6" and ride a short mod. Its all about getting the set up right in my opinion. Might be worth getting him to have a go on mod and stock and just see what he feels more comfortable riding as everyone is different at the end of the day
benthedog
Ok thanks guys. Bit of a mixed opinion. Guess it's just personal preference really? I'll find out how tall he is. If he were to get a mod, what geometry would make it feel bigger. Like a higher BB rise?? or whatever it is? sorry, i'm no expert
ogre
bb rise cramps up a bike, look for long wheelbase and then buy a big stem like the onza.
benthedog
Ok, I'll see what i can find thanks everyone.
LukasMcNeal
Im 6ft 2 and ride a long mod fine. In fact I went on a friends stock today and didn't like it at all.
Muel
I think it's not just height, but build and personal preference that matter aswell. Is he a 6 foot rake or fairly large? Get him to try both aswell.
benthedog
Ok. Well thanks everyone question answered How do i change the title of the post so I can ask the moderators to close it? Trials is not very popular where i live so he can't really try a stock but iv'e got a mod he can try. Do you think a standard Onza Rip is a good example or will it put him off it forever He's really large, like big built. he's a giant!!!! Just found out he's 6'5!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for the replies Edited February 17, 2010 by benthedog
