livingston
To the forum operators: I find it somehow unreasonable that you force somebody to open a "nice topic" and get votes so that he can talk in your forums!? I understand the reasons but if someone wants to post any s*** in your forum, steal a member of yours etc...he will do it one way or another!!!!!! I am on the net so many hours, i have visited all kinds of forums and this is the first time i have to be approved by other members! I don't want to talk about trials, what is this? Some kind of dictatorship? Oh i am sorry i have to be in the mood to write a nice topic to be approved! It's like when we were in kinder garden You get a star when you say something good! To the forum members: All the best to you all, Philios. <snip> It makes sense because you don't get people scamming you off like on say pinkbike. Say if you was to get validated, people find you genuine, and will be willing to swap or buy a bike from you. Its down to trust i'd say, but as im nowhere near a mod, i cannot say the exact reasons. IT also avoids CLICK HERE FOR A FREE PS3 and other rubbish like that. And i dot think by creating a topic about dictatorship via the moderators, is very helpful in you half to be honest mate. Good luck anyhoo. Oh, and by using HE "he will do it in one way or another" is sexist .
eskimo
It's been brought up hundreds of times before, and yeah it does have it's problems but it also has it's bonuses too! A recent change is that regular validated members can vote people in, whereas before a Moderator would be the only ones to validate new members. So the process is allot quicker now. I can't be arsed to email you to see pics of your bike, but why not post up some pics of your bike in the 'pre-members bike check' area? No doubt you'll have a bombardment of kids and noobers ( ) posting crap about rules, mentioning the word 'fail' and generally repeating what each other said who also feel the same way as you until they're validated. I've never voted for anyone yet, but you can have my first ever vote [edit] It seems the validation button is down or i can't find it. The forum only literally got upgraded. chris4stars
I really dont see where the problem is?! If someone wants to use the forum just to sell a bike...its purely for thier own gain, theres always ebay... If however someone wants to contribute to chat too...after a couple of decent replies (you dont even need to make a topic) you'll get the votes and be able to use the full forum anyway? It really is that easy if you follow the guidelines/rules and peoples advice As for the reasons behind it, have you noticed the difference between the new members and full members forum areas? (just the trails chat one). Its pretty noticeable...the fact there is such a difference is as good a reason as any to kep the system in place, It makes the information all the more accesible when the forum isnt clogged up with daft repeated questions and other nonsense. Dictatorship? you dont want to talk about trials....im sure there is a community somewhere online who is happy to talk about whatever youd like to talk about? Trials Forum understandably has a slight bias towards trials related chat...(unless youre refering to the chit-chat section, which you can easily gain access too as noted above) You could say it was like kindergarten getting a gold star, or perhaps like any other aspect of adult life where you need to make a little effort to stand out to finally get where you want....do you throw the same hissy fit at a job interview? the forum im guessing just wants to maintain the pretty high standard of knowledge and understanding about the sport, needs must. Cahill Trials Kid
If you don't want to talk about trials what is your problem And this is probaly the best forum you have been on and the only one where you dont get d*cks pissing around on it ! livingston
I get the point...with this policy you can have weird people of popping in etc... Ebay is not a good way to sell a bike as ebay-paypal fees are extraordinary!!! It's been so much time that i have the bike locally and no one called! It's a bit frustrating...people here come and ask: "ah...where is the saddle, i have a GT with a saddle which is better" Yeah i know it looks like the best forum...i have not said the appropriate things to get votes but that's what i felt (which is history) So yes, it's reasonable and clear now... jt123
I don't see the problem with the validation system, in fact I think its a good thing. I have been on many other forums that don't have this system (in fact this is the first that I have seen), and the amount of d**kheads on them that try to argue with everything someone says and just living up to their well earned title is unbelievable. From looking around this forum it is not like that. As someone has already said, this is a TRIALS forum, to mostly talk about trials related things. If you don't want to talk about trials then maybe you should join another forum. By the way, this is not just brown nosing to get validated, this guy has just annoyed me a little bit. chris4stars
thought id make a little bump to combine all this topics at the top of the new members forum! surely this is just a case of 'point proven' edit* alas i didnt manage to get it alongside his other post made after this selling the bike! anzo
There is no dictatorship here at all, all the rules say are that New Memebers Chat isn't to be used to sell or buy goods - this is soley because people get scammed by members turning up with only 1 post and then commiting to buy certain things, whilst most are genuine purchases, a lot of them are not...there is no rule to suggest you must talk about trials. There are a lot of forums that use a similar process to this, however most require you to post X amount of posts before being allowed to explore the rest of the forum, therefore they know that their members are worthwhile and have some degree of intelligence. If you follow the guidelines and post something worth while; you'll shine above the rest and be validated in no time. Welcome to the forum. livingston
Hey Anzo thanks! I get the point but the thing is that i never talk into forums...rarely I like reading stuff and even for kitesurfing which is my job: teaching...i just read to become wiser haha If anything comes up that is worth it, i will let the forum know! Unfortunately in life we all suffer for a few w******s that just wonder around... I was in Germany 2 weeks ago and i was so pissed when i had to take off my watch, belt, ipod etc...at every airport (connecting flights Munich, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt) and had a security guy checking me with that stupid stick!!!!! I could have exploded...!!! Keep it real...enjoy every second and be in the present... Phil.
scott_gregorydh
i did agree with livingston and thought in my head ' so i am not the only one who thinks this validation rule is a bit o.t.t.' but then after reading the rest of what the members have said it does all seem to sum trials riders up to a tee....very serious indeed. this site/forum is clean from the annoying bunch that cling on other well known forums like a fusty mould, adding their single braincell answer to a question some other more serious, more mature member has posted in hope of some help. i personally race downhill and im getting into trials again with a 20" bike of all things but for me the wait to become a member hopefully will come soon so i can interact with others and get my bits a bit cheaper too tea 2 sugars

To the forum members: All the best to you all, Philios. <snip> For a start, you don't have to open a 'nice topic' as you put it. You just have to post and all it takes is 5 members to notice how well you're posting and you're in. You never have to make a topic. There are many reasons why it's like this. To stop inexperienced forum users failing to post links, pics and vids and making a mess of the forum. It allows people to learn the rules, etiquette of the forum, the standard of the forum. It deters people who just want to use the forum to sell. Keeps out the spammers. The list is endless. There's nothing that you can't do in new members that you do anywhere else on the forum other than buy and sell. And if you've come on this forum because you want to sell something then in lue of paying fees via ebay you'll have to be pacient and wait until your validated. TF is somewhat a dictatorship, as it's a private forum, the admin can do whatever they like, they don't have to answer to anyone. Although the admin always discuss what's going on with this forum in the SM (hidden) forum and often ask the regular members. Exactly your problem. The ironic thing is, you could have metaphorically exploded, but if those security checks weren't in place you are at risk of literally exploding. I'm sure you'll complain about it either way.
