matthew_coggan
I have always used just normal hoses on my bikes, and at times they have cracked and ive had to have a new hose. I have read that this doesnt hapen with braided hoses. But i would like to no the advantages and disadvantages with both types of hose. Normal hoses bulge slightly when you pull the lever, so loses a bit of your braking force, but braided hoses eliminate this bulging so doesn't lose the braking force as much. To be honest though this loss is only slightly noticeable as I had both types on my old DH bike. Braided hoses are more resistant to splitting and cracking so they are worth every penny if you can afford them as they will last longer but they can be quite expensive and if you have a big slam then they could still split. My advice is if you have hydraulics front and rear then get braided just for the rear if you can afford them, and just have normal on the front. as you haven't got the constant rubbing from your shoes/legs on the front hoses.
