adarm
Hey Guys I'm a keen biker and I'm starting to realise I'm getting older and have always wanted to give trials a shot. I've been looking for a bargain for a while and today I was offered one. I was offered a practically unused, 2007, onza t-bird not sure of actual spec yet but it has mags front and rear, drilled rims all for 100 squid. It wasn't the bike I was looking out for but at this price I don't think I should ignore it. I've searched around a bit and can't find much other than "heavy, basic, go for this bike instead" So just wondering what your guys views were of the 2007 vintage? Should I miss it bearing in mind the £100+ I've saved and could potentially spend on this? Any particuarly good sites I should have a gander at since i've never even (sat) on one of these things before? Cheers AD Looking forward to sticking around on here Edited February 3, 2010 by adarm
Ben John-Hynes
For starters, welcome to TF! The bike: as long as it has a 19" rear wheel(meaning a massively chunky tyre) then it'll be easy to upgrade the frame, as the brake mounts will be in the right place. So with the £100 you'll save on the bike, you could possibly spec it up a lot better. Got any pics on said bike?
mr.tattoo
for 100 quid you cant really go wrong. plus you will try to learn more as it wont matter if you bash it about.
adarm
Cheers for the quick reply. Nooo, not yet, I'm buying it from a friends' friend, who bought it, fell off, and has left it in his garage for the past year - being too scared to ride it! I'm sure I'll do the same and have it for sale by easter! I'll ask my mate to get some, I won't be seeing it until monday where it will be a case of buy or, well, bye... From what I've read I think that it must have a 19" back wheel to fit the non-standard mags? AD
Ben John-Hynes
From what I've read I think that it must have a 19" back wheel to fit the non-standard mags? On some basic Mod(20") bikes, it has 20" wheels front and rear, so the rear magura mounts will be higher up on the frame to suit the larger wheel, so a 19" won't fit- so it's hard to upgrade frames. On most mod bikes, the rear wheel and brake placement is suited to 19" and is, therefore, easier to change frames as all modern frames have brake mounts to suit a 19" wheel. Hope that's shed some light. Edited February 3, 2010 by Ben John-Hynes
Rixy
dont wanna hijack your thread, but i have a t bird frame? how can i measure whether the brake mounts ar for 19" rear wheel or 20" rear wheel?? can i measure from the axle dropouts, to the centre of the brake mounts?? Ben John-Hynes
T-birds are for 19" wheels. Just had a look
Borat
Blah, blah. Save up and get a t-pro, one of the best riding mods, as quite alot of people will agree. Amazing value for money, check mine out, I prefer it to my zoo! python: http://www.trials-forum.co.uk/forum/index....howtopic=147510 Have a validation vote. adarm
@ Borat Thanks, it's not a case of saving up, I have the dough but is it justified given that I might just fall off and give up like a lot of people do. Bottom line in my eyes is that £100, if it will allow me to progress for 1 year (my main question), it will be £100 well spent, if I give up after a week and flog it, I reckon I could quite easily get around that mark and only lost the cost of a good night out. Not arguing, just trying to get an opinion about a bike I can see little info on in a style of riding I have had no contact with. Edit: I'm guessing its a 2008 since i was told it looks like http://www.wiggle.co.uk/images/onza-t-bird.jpg but with mags on, I'm sure he mentioned drilled rims too... Mikey-uk
I know you mention that its the problem of price for usage but you will regret not going with a t-pro, if you dont like it chances are you'll be validated so you can post it for sale in the members area. Borat
Don't worry about it mate, no arguements here. I totally know what you mean though mate. Go for it, then if you really like it, keep at it and get a new frame.
cbskiddies
Yeah it is a nice bike. Go for it!

0zzy
get it, given that it has 19" rear wheel, then ride it for a bit, upgrade the brake pads and get a grind, ride it then uprgade the frame when you feel that the t-bird is holiding you back. adarm
Alright guys, Cheers for your input - I'll give it a go! I think mod bikes look silly and I come from a mtb background (although I can't ride my 'dale Chase for shit) so hopefully, if I think there is a future with me, trials and a and e, then I'll perhaps I'll move over to stock... Anyway, I best dig out some shin pads and start scowering the net for some good tutorials. Ta AD
matthew_coggan
I made the mistake in getting a T - Bird as my first bike with a 20 inch back wheel and i got through so many inner tubes so, if it has a 19inch back wheel then its a good price. But if you are abit of a bargin hunter like myself thyen you could wait for the right bike and get 1 for about 50, 60 squid.
MadManMike
I'd go for it, then buy a second hand frame off here
adarm
Cheers guys I'll be picking it up on Monday. Out of interest, what should I be looking for when I'm giving it the once over? I assume no huge gashes in the frame and that the wheels go round? Found trashzen, looks like I've got a long road ahead! Thanks for your help AD
