Chris King In 135mm Horizontal Droupouts

So I've built up my new Hydroxx (origonal frame - bought second hand) and I have a Chris king hub! this means I can't fit snail cams :( This is because a kign hub takes up the full 135mm

At the moment I have just upgraded to a Heavy duty axle and I rode today for only half hour with no tensioner in place and everything was fine :o but surely I can't assume this set up is going to last?

Does anyone run a Chris king with horizontal dropouts? I'd like to know If the heavy duty bolts can just hold under trials use? I know that another option is using one snail cam and stretching the frame out (Adam from Tarty does this) but for me this makes my cranks hit my brake setup (its all very close up there) so i'm considering chain tugs. Under these conditions can anyone confirm this is my best option? or add a suggestion please?

Needing help, Dave

Snail cams on the outside of the frame ;)

Legend, I hope this works, I will try tomorrow :) If it does I solute you sir!

EDIT: I just looked, and the outside of my frame is far from flush, very oddly shaped and many groves... I'm thinking back to chain tugs again. Another thing I need to ask is what size are Chris king fun bolts, because standard 10mm chain cams wouldn;t fit over the threaded section. Are they 12mm or 14mm at the threads? Thanks

If you can get the chain to tension ok then the fun bolts will happily hold your wheel place. I've got a Limey 3 with a CK on the rear and had no issues with it moving in the dropouts, even when the tensioning bolts have undone themselves so are effectively doing nothing.

Yep that will work fine (Y)

Stan used one cam on the inside of the right hand dropout on his Hydroxx, that worked great too (and only stretched the frame out a couple of mm).

The King bolts are 12mm thread, you can just make a larger hole on most cams or get a specific 12mm set.

You have 3 options really.

1) You can ignore stretching the frame out 6mm and run 2 snail cams regardless, which can't be good on the frame really.

2) Do what Adam said and use one snail cam on the drive side which will work fine. As he said, Stan was using it for a while like that.

3) You can get them machined out 3/4 of the thickness so they slip over the end of the axle if you are really that bothered about frame stretch.

If you are unsure of measurements to go by or don't have anywhere to do this for you, contact 'Bigman' on here and he can sort this for you.

EDIT: Yer also Adams last point he made. Drill the holes bigger to fit all the way over the axle.
