Ben John-Hynes
A higher BB makes the bike stand on the rear wheel better, but makes it a bit more unstable on two wheels. It's good for static moves but you'll have to adapt your style slightly for rolling moves.
phobia
cheers mate, how does it affect sidhops and gaps? like do you you gain any hright or ease in things like this?
LEON
I only ever ride short proper street bikes but i did own a gu typhoon with huge bb rise for about 6 months to see what all the fuss was about and I could static gap virtually no further than I could on a bike 3" shorter, it doesn't suit everyone. Like Ben said, hoppy tappy stuff is great, but anything rolling will suffer, your centre of gravity is higher so on 2 wheels it's harder to balance. But on 1 wheel you're so far off the back of the bike it's like being on a pogo stick as opposed to a low bb where you're more sat "in the bike" instead of being perched on top of it. Dale-Hill
Sine I went from my a3 and czar to my neon which has a bigger BB rise (+60 I think) it feels so much nicer for gaps and shit like that IMO. sidehops seem to be a bit bigger too. Ali C
i had a short stint on an Ozonys Cannibal with a 45~ bb rise. I found it harder to land most moves, gaps were about the same distance, but when I landed I woud just fall off the back of the bike, same with taps and hooks. The main issue for me was sidehops, it completely ruined me! I was previously at around 48", but once I got on the Ozonys they went down to about 42". I kept on hitting the wheel against the side of the rock/wall instead of landing on top. It felt like I had to jump higher than I would on a lower bb bike. phobia
mixed reviews helps lol i guess with a higher bb youd be standing higher meaning you need to pull the back wheel up more but on the other side you are starting off higher and if i have more control on the back wheel i can get a better preload
LEON
There's people who go huge on +80 odd bb's, and there's people going just as big with more normal bb heights, the potential for moves is probably nearly identical on both, just try it & see if it suits you, some people can't stand it. Obviously a high bb will favour hooks & give more ground clearance, but it'll shit up any manuals/non pedal moves you want to do. You cant just blast down the street and bunnyhop onto a small wall, I had to slow down & stop for anything like that, all depends how you wanna ride. That's because we know what's nice and whats not. :wink2: now now with the northern jokes lol has anybody found it inpossible to do something on a higher bb? And to answer your question no. infact, for me, going from +55 to +70 has made pretty much everything feel better. Theres nothing that's 'impossible'.
