Matt Vandart
I don't think its the Lycra shorts that's holding trials back, Its more the fact of the endless videos on Youtube of riders doing pretty much the same thing. I mean when Damon Watson released a video of him doing a drop gap to front we were all pretty amazed, but Joe Public just saw it as another seatless bike bouncing around. However when Danny Mac released his video which was innovative and extremely well edited we loved it and average Joe loved it because it was DIFFERENT and had that wow factor (flair out of tree, 360 down huge stair set and dropping off of bridges to name a few). I'll probably get burned for saying this, but i wonder if Danny's fame would of been hindered if he had been wearing tights. Absolutely. At least hes not a twat in every post, unlike you ROFL! danny B
I am with Mark on this one i have rode world cups for years and the tighter clothing is better to compete in for a few reasons stabalises body temperature, doesnt get in the way/obstruct you vision and is very flexable trust some positions on technical dabs at world cups get interesting. i am not saying wear skins to ride street but from a competing point of veiw they work and as for looking cool as fu** at comps winning is cool as fu** and i wear my skin with my fox sponsored kit and Fox are cool period..... o and they are not tights you nobs you buy tights for women its compression clothing if you are wearing tights you are cross dressing .....weird Edited January 29, 2010 by danny B
ben_travis
you should probably check what these are called on this link then - http://www.amazon.co.uk/SKINS-Tights-Compression-Clothing-White/dp/B000VVIN02 ://http://www.amazon.co.uk/SKINS-Tight.../dp/B000VVIN02 all i see are the words "compression tights"....also if you head to the skins website they are called tights as well. so y'all should probably come down off you high horses. i am with dunc, however i think the example for this is gilles....i mean c'mon. wtf is it about the super short shorts, on top of white 'camo' compression TIGHTS. it is ridiculous. it might be performance enhancing, but why does he have to wear such short shorts as well? some normal shorts would allow the same benefits imo. danny B
oooooooo Ben, and the short shorts are so he can get his legs right upto his head no restrictions and wasnt on me high horse love and sorry i thought they were more like leggings really but you must know better and have read the web site well.....well done to you indeed. Also duncan i must of seen you wear tight clothing before to get around the BIU rules as we all have instead of wear long trousers in the heat????? ben_travis
....read the web site well.....well done to you indeed. I am university educated after all. reading is one of my strong points. internet sarcasm obviously isnt. chill your beans dan. duncans question wasnt about whether the 'leggings' were performance enhancing or not, he is asking if they give the wrong image to newcomers to the sport, and are possibly a contributing factor to the lack of media spotlight for trials competitions etc. I was going to use macaskill and ashton as examples, but i suppose they do not compete at the highest level so probably bad examples. However, how will 'trials' ever have more exposure when we do not have 'show' mentality?
Mark W
Mototrials is shown on mainstream TV, live in Spain. From what I could tell in Sheffield, the riders weren't wearing baggy jeans, hoodies and pisspot lids.
Mat Smith!!
to be honest i dont even care if people are wearing tights, they can wear what they want, i wear skinnys and when people say stuff to me i dont really kick up a fuss, the only reason i said something about them looking stupid in the other topic, is because thats what all these natty riders said when people started wearing skinnys, theres are 175% gayer than skinnys, but meh, if there helping riding or whatever then so be it, no need to ban them from comps or whatever . Rusevelt
Sports Direct Stores have slashed their range of compression wear down to as low as £8 (in-store prices and not online) whilst stocks last. They seem to only stock Nike, Canterbury and Puma. I had to trek around 3 stores in london just to get one XL top.
flatpro
as I mentioned in the gilles-thread, I think people should make their minds up whether they want bike trials to be recognized as serious (olympic-kinda) sport or whether they want it to be part of the extremsport/funsport movement. if the latter is the case then tights probably won't help much to create a cooler imageB. but I don't see any reason why riders in competition or working out for competitions should not wear performance clothing, as competitions are all about performance. And without competitions the sport doesn't get much attention, sponsors, tv coverage etc. BMX got big when the xgames got big, just to mention one example. But I don't believe that trials will ever be as "cool" as bmx, skateboarding, fmx and so on, because competitions are all about concentration, studying your line, spying your opponents etc. and that simply doesn't look cool at all!! therefore I think a more serious image of bike trials is the way to go anyway and I don't see any reasons why performance clothing should be banned from competitions. If you don't like tights or anything else that doesn't look cool, then you should maybe open a new thread about banning competitions from trials!! *lol*

Phatmike
I'm all for improving the image of the sport, and completely agree that tights generally look gay as f**k. But it can't be made legislation! It's up to us, the riders to actually shape the way the sport develops. If the guy at the top is some geek with a stupid bike and wearing just a thong, but the guy edging in in 2nd place is some dude in a Hawaiian shirt, some jeans, and a piss-pot, who do you think's gonna generate the most media attention and appeal to the sport? We're all going out and bringing trials into the world, if you want to make it better, let's start making it bloody cooler!
aener
That... ...Or come to terms with the fact that it's just NOT a cool sport. Fun as f**k? Yes. Cool? ...I doubt it.
