chris4stars
Right, i was out for a decent ride about a week ago...and the next day my fingers on my left hand were really feeling the pain, mainly the middle and ring finger from the knuckle to the base.. they feel pretty swollen, and the pain is like a throbbing ache...(almost like a broken bone), its hard to squeeze my hand shut and hurts to pull my fingers back...lifting anything heavy is surprisingly sore and my fingers feel comparitively weak i was pulling the brake pretty hard (just my forefinger) because i hadnt yet grinded my rim...and needed better braking, if anyone has had any similar injuries or advice specific to this sort of pain im all ears! ps - i have chatted to a number of doctors and had them look at it, but theyve been unable to diagnose for sure what it is...im half tempted to actually go and get it officially checked out, but thought id ask for some advice here first. its such a specific problem, there is probably more knowledge of it here anyway

thinkdougie
I have this problem, have you tilted your bars or anything like that?
DrEvil270183
I get this sometime. I think it's just a knocked vain or muscle in the finger. I usually take some ibruprofen and rest it a few days. Be fine. Never hurts during the ride, only ever the day after.
chris4stars
its the new hs33 lever and the 2 finger plade that comes with it....ive been pretty tempted to swap the blade for the echo sl, or even go for the full echo sl lever....just to try something different?! i dont ever have a problem with the mono trial lever...it feels great, part of me is tempted to go for a rear disc if ever they release a fourplay with a rear mount?! but thats a whole different topic and thread...im just not feeling the benefits of the magura just yet, and with a nakered hand..cant enjoy a very very light grind! edit* never tilted the bars as the right hand is fine, but i will try just incase...and it does hurt all the time, more so when riding Edited January 24, 2010 by chris4stars

bigamac
Might be that your lever is at the wrong angle to Your riding position at the time maybe.

Borat
Mannndem, get a picture of the position of how you have your levers. It will be a big help.
Joe O'Connor
Ive had that before, with motorbike trials aswel. Im sure its just that your fingers are tired and need the mussels to be built up. Finger exercises? It normally goes away after a while. I had it after doing a day of down hill on a hardtail jump bike with munted forks that were pretty much solid. It went after a few days. I would say it will be fine, just that your hands need to harden. But hey, Im no doctor.

chris4stars
going to try tilting the bars a little (V!Z Pro 720's with foam grips) and changing the position of the brake lever...i'll let you know if that helps as it seems to be a common problem! cheers for the info guys
mr_malcolm
Some one feel free to come along and correct me here, but i beleive this is whats known as arm pump. Basically if im correct its where the muscles in the arm expand and contract and when they stiffen up after a ride or even during a ride sometimes they trap some of the nerves to the hand witch in turn gives you the pain and or hard to move your fingers properly. I beleive this is what its called but its along those lines quite a common injury in most forms of mountain biking.

chris4stars
just been out after changing positions of the brake levers and bars...though i cant be sure, it seems that if id had them in the position they are now...the problem may not have occured? just a guess my left hand was as sore as usual, and the rear wheel wasnt locking up very well (this could be the grind being too fine or something, but its not making the honking noises ive heard it is meant to - another topic altogether) after some days rest, after tonights ride its feeling more like a minor stress fracture in the middle and ring finger from the knuckle to down....hopefully some people reading this will know what feeling im talking about?! the part of my finger that im talking about, squeezing it gently from top to bottom it hurts signifigantly more than it does from either side...wondering if anyone else shares that sensation? Stevie
I literally have got the same pain, i only get it bad after riding and only in one finger. I actually broke my finger like 2 weeks ago and it feels very similar to that except i can actually bend it this time. I can feel it bad when i pull my finger lightly, it's a real put off when im trying to ride. After a 2 day break i can ride once then it seems to come back again the day after, no idea what it is as it just randomly started once when i changed nothing on my bike. I don't think your on your own with this mysterious pain.
