chris4stars
im very tempted to treat myself to what ive read to be one of the best cranks available for trials...but before i go ahead, i was wondering if anyone could point out a few things; 1. in terms of my actual riding, will i (or would anyone for that matter) actually notice a difference? not just between my cranks (trialtech isis - soon to go on sale if i get these!) and the rs7, but between any cranks in general? (on the assumption they are the same arm length) 2. i noticed the lifetime warranty...so is this literally meaning this will be the last crank i ever have to buy?! does it require a certain bottom bracket to keep the warranty valid? 3. if no to above, what (if any) is the recommended bb to use alongside them? will the trialtech suffice? thanks for any help with the questions! Alex Dark
1. I doubt you;d notice a huge difference....they're not massively lighter, and you'll have to buy a bash to go with as well. 2.In theory I guess so....it'll be on workmanship though i suppose. 3. Trialtech should be fine I would have thought, In all honesty, I;d keep the trialtechs and spend the dolla elsewhere. If you run a king or pro2 and want to lose some weight..and know of some decent price middleburn cranks with a TI bash or TNN then i guess it'd be worth upgrading. craigjames
I doubt you'd notice any difference at all between Middleburns and any other high end crank. But personally I don't run anything but Burns, have them on both my trials bikes and the Intense, stiff, light, strong and the warranty covers trials use. Revolver
There's not really a difference in riding, but they will be the last cranks you buy. If you round them off on the threads or the BB interface, that's your fault, but if they ever snap, you'll get new ones.
max-t
They flex a lot compared the the CNC cranks that are now available. I noticed a huge difference when I put my adamant cranks on. Your best bet would be to get either some forged cranks (Trialtech will be fine) or some cheaper CNC ones as the price of a bash guard and sprocket will be a lot cheaper than that of Middleburns. EDIT: but yes, they warrenty is legit and if you break them (which you wont ) they will happily replace them for you. ogre
i love mine there really nice get a cloud 9 bash they look awesome! you'll have to change your whole setup if you want to go ffw in the future, but if you pair your burns with a pro2 or a king your set for years anyway
chris4stars
thanks for the replys guys... money isnt really an issue luckily enough, and i didnt really expect a difference in riding...it was as much for the looks/nice to know feeling as it was anything else. i was just curious where alot of peoples preferences for the rs7's came from, rather than any of the other highend cranks ive seen on tarty im running with pro2 hubs, and have never really been taken by a ffw....i ride a fair distance on it, and the idea of the chain constantly going...im bound to get caught out one morning with a frayed bit of jeans! cheers again
Brisa
It probably stems from the RS7's being the only decent set of trials specific cranks you could get until Deng and his many brands came about a few years ago. They still take some beating today. I have 2 sets that I have aquired over the years which could still be used no problem, they're just a bit too scruffy for my liking so they definately do last! On a side note, if your trialtechs are isis shoot me a PM if your looking rid of them very soon. Need a set of stand in cranks asap.
Jamie_Neal
awesome cranks and the warrenty does work. I've had a pair of twisted ones changed and my friend snapped a pair which i think he changed. Don't round the tapers or threads and they should change them although i doubt you'd ever need to. They do flex more than other cranks but feel lovely and look gorgeous with a cloud 9 bash. Try a bike with some on if you can. Always the best way
chris4stars
sounds good, im sold! ive noticed though that to use it with a pro trials bashring, id need to run a 20t chainring? at the moment im riding a fourplay with 18t on the front with 14t on the rear...will the slight increase make a noticeable difference? or should i put a 15t on the rear to make up for it? Revolver
You don't want to go up to 20t without going up on the back too. Also, you can buy 18t rings for them. The super pro trials one is in 18t. It's also £70 though... OR you could get a cloud9 ring, which is 18t. Cloud9 rings are PIMP.
