Hessy
Hi, me and my Dad have had this argument for a while now, does cutting tread off tyres help improve grip? I have Try-all 20" tyres front and back, what do you think and which treads should I cut off? Hessy
joshlyd1
you cut the outside ones but not the M shaped ones everyother one on each side , leave middle i used wire cutting plyerss then nail scissors
Muel
Use a knife, scalpels are best. I find it definately increases grip, especially on the edge of things.
Revolver
Does it improve grip? Some would argue so.. in theory, if there's more space between the knobs there's more room for them to wrap around whatever you're riding on. I'm not cutting mine off though, it's too much effort

How the bl**dy hell would it improve grip!? Street tyres get more grip by having more surface contact. If you are riding anything other than an ultra smooth surface this does not work and on mud or rocks or anything like that grip will be improve by soft tyres as they mold around the object giving more contact area, or treads which in effect do the same thing, but dig in to the nooks and crannies (or mud) stopping you from sliding. Mark W
it definately does inprove grip off road, it allows more the object to get between the tread and get grip (especially helpful for sidehops). It also helps in mud/lose conditions where a normal tyre might get clogged up. Don't knock it till you've tried it That was Ali, but I agree with what he said I said he said I said he said. EDIT: Mindf**k, just merged the posts. Gargh.
