Broomer perhaps.......... on his Mini

Are they cracking down on that this year then Chris? I was told last year before I went that they wern't allowing cars with extruding pins on, and that some were allowed on if they were covered with tape, but nobody was stopped when I was there in the mini, with LOADS of the mini's having bonnet pins....

Eurgh, god sake.

please say i can just tape em up. pretty please pretty please.

No can do unfortunately. M3 still a few days from completion, 740 not in good enough order to tow the M3 (vibraitons from DMF/clutch). I might get there but f**k the tranny in the process and the M3 might break down on the 1st lap. Slightly pissed off as I was looking forward to this :(

Here's the latest from what I've heard...

As many of you know, it was the marshal's briefing this weekend. It was also the first glimpse of what will be happening in 2010 vis a vis rules, regs, enforcements etc...

I think the most relevant points to visitors will be:

Everybody:

• Stupid parking (i.e. any parking not in a clearly marked place) will be rewarded with a 100% guaranteed winning ticket to pick your car up from an exciting location in Adenau. This means verges, over kerbs, abandoned next to mates cars which aren't moving etc...

• Parking capacity will be expanded before season begins to match the above enforcement

• No change to basic rules - no vids, no paid taxi laps, etc...

Modded cars:

• Bonnet pins are now TOTALLY verboten. Even if covered with tape or rubber. It's flush mount or standard bonnets only

• Interior trim - NO sharp edges or even tatty-looking 'rip outs' will be tolerated. You must have door cards installed, you can't leave shin-breaking metal beams uncovered under your dash.

• Roll bars and cages must be padded where your body will hit them. This will be checked more.

• Expect more TüV time - this is where a Meister guy from the the standards body here in Germany spends time at the gate spot-checking for safe and unsafe cars. This can only be a good thing provided the decisions are consistent.

Basically don't tit about, or turnup in a shitbox, and you'll be fine. Bonnet pins (or any sharp edges, like aftermarket jap-style wings) are all about biker safety in the event of a crash.

Out of curiosity, what would the reaction be to my mini turning up once done? It'll be completely 100% road legal in the UK, IVA tested, and all that faf. But obviously a lot of the home made stuff on it wouldn't go through a German TUV test, (simply because it hasn't been approved, rather than being unsafe/not up to standard). Would they just use judgement that it was up to standard even if it didn't have the correct stamps/approvals? Or would I be sent packing?

They can enforce full TuV approval if they want. They have no obligation to let you on if they don't want to. Ultimately they could insist you have to have pink wheels if they wanted. Having an MoT carries no weight in Germany.

I think in practise, you'll only be picked up if there's something obvious or they take a dislike to you. If your car is stupidly loud, or you're doing burn outs in the car park or something like that. If you have a non-TuV approved seat, but it's installed correctly and is in good working order they won't look twice*. Turn up with half a rusty scrapyard in your car, unfinished panels and comedy suspension geometry, you won't get close.

If it's obvious - bonnet pins, video camera, etc... No chance.

I'd be more worried about the Police nearby. A few people get a rush of blood to the throttle pedal outside the track (*cough*Skyline owners*cough*) and the Police have no qualms at all about fining people, or even confiscating cars if it needs it. There's also a few points near the carpark which have speed limits which change suddenly!

* This is no guarentee, just my opinion!

Ah shit. I hope my interior will be alright! I still have my front door cards on, so hopefully I will be, but thats about the only thing left in there bar the dash.

George, as long as potentially dangerous bits are finished/padded then you'll probably be ok. As I said above, it's unpadded cages and unfinished door trims that are problematic.

I cant see there being anything "unsafe" on the interior, but I guess its up to them at the end of the day!

As I said, unless it looks like a shitbox, they're not going to start poking around unless they have some reason to. Probably the most you'll get is someone looking through the window at the barrier.
