bikeperson45
Hello, just got a bike and found the HS33 lever wasn't working. I took it apart and the piston in the lever body is jammed at the bottom and I can't get it to come back up and move as it should again. Anyone know how I can fix this? Thanks
Ben John-Hynes
2.5/3mm allen key through the bleed hole. New piston+spring kit from tarty

New piston+spring kit from tarty That, or take a bleed syringe and put it in the bleed hole and force it through (worked for me anyway )
Borat
It's an 05 lever, so can't still the allen key up it. Yeah, do that Lukeeeeee said, stick the bleed syringe in the bleed hole and it should pop out.

bikeperson45
Okay, I used the syrine kit and kept the lever bleed hole done up and pumped water through from te slaves, which didn't get the piston out. Than i tried it reverse order and taht didn't work and then the normal way. Is there anything else i should be doing? Thanks

Take the lever off, whack the syringe on and blow air into it
Simpson
I've had one that just wouldnt come out, with an alley key and a hammer, with the bleed kit anything, it was just royally f**ked.
JT!
Me too, this only seems to happen when people use water instead of some kind of oil, the piston doesn't get lubricated and just gets stuck. Mine took an almighty force to get it out and never worked again.

bikeperson45
That's what I'm starting to think. The spring goes under the pistond doesn't it? But by how far down the piston is the spring has to be very, very compacted. Thanks for the help

Mine took an almighty force to get it out and never worked again. Water still acts as a lubricant. You also have about 30ml or so (at most) of fluid in your brake, which is spread over the entire brake system - how much fluid do you think is actually used to lubricate the system anyway? The vast majority of it is plastic hose, and the rest of it should be suitably lubed by the water itself passing over it. It seems funny how all the problems people have 'because of water' I've had with oil bled brakes too... To the original poster dude - if it's waterbled, are you sure it hasn't just frozen? bikeperson45
The pistons at the cylinders were frozen out and went back in, but the one in the lever is still stuck down there after being inside since Wednesday.
Mark W
If someone tried squeezing it hard when it was partially frozen or totally frozen I guess that might be enough to mess it up pretty badly.
Borat
Get a vice (or a helping hand), take the lever blade off, get some long nose grips, clamp down with both hands onto the edge of the piston, get someone to fill a syringe full of water, don't use air as it compresses and you have less force, whilst you try pulling the piston out, get someone to push water through with the syringe, If all fails, I have a silver lever body you have borrow, which has a piston in it already. Me and my Dad tried that and no success Think it's wrecked but gonna send it to Tarty and see if they can do anything. I'm alright for tomorow, haven't sold my Koxx yet so will be on that, thanks anyway
Russertron
I just had exactly the same issue. After reading this thread I tried forcing the piston out with water - took quite a bit of pressure but it worked! I'm just about to re-bleed the brake and hope the seals aren't buggered. Fingers crossed )
