Jake.
Post which you chose and why you think it's your preferred choice. No thoughtless comments like "'cos I like it like that" - makes you look chavvy and stupid. Personally I like double slicks as I feel 'bouncier' on the rear wheel and 'gripper' as there's more of the tyre in contact with the ground. I'm more than welcome to arguments against my views! DannyBazz (:
In winter I use creepy crawlers with like loads of tread, in summer I run rear slick, try all xx EDIT: so as its winter atm, I put no slicks Edited January 11, 2010 by DannyBazz (:
Revolver
I prefer the idea of no slicks. I can see why you'd want slicks, but this causes two problems - if the slick is extra thick, like as thick as the tread on knobbly tyres is, then it's going to weigh a ton, and if it's thin, like a knobbly tyre only with no knobbles, it's going to wear down real quick. Also, any attempt at grip in the wet may well go out of the window. Knobbly tyres also give you grip in muddy conditions and in loose surfaces like gravel, which comes in handy for places like bunny. Yeah, I see what you're saying... I slicked my Maxxis creepy crawlers (front and rear). Still has plenty (5mm) of life in the rear so will be a while 'til it wears down, I also have a spare one just in case...

Bigman
I ride on things that arn't perfectly flat therefore slicks are useless. Yeh, but you would be surprised what a slick will grip on! I ran a try-all tyre with around 5% tread left, so pretty much a slick and that would grip very well on natural, some times you would have to be a little carefull where you placed it or if the rocks were realy slippery (although most of the time a grippy tyre would slip in that situation), but generaly it was very good! I would go back to that tyre any time......

Alex Dark
Hope our msn conversation didn't spark this off I'd say both with tread....although in-line with what Bigman says ^^^ I run a front nearly bald try-all and it does grip extremely well... hdmackay
I just love double slick for when it's dry, not only do you get more grip but it sheds mud really great too. Well, mud pretty much doesn't get stuck on it. Great for if you go through dog shit too. Normally, on treaded tyres, it sticks on so much, but slicks shed shit good. Scott Gibbs
In summer double slicks ***! But for now im running a pair of super tacky maxxis high rollers in this weather. Best slicks/street tyres imo are maxxis hollyrollers.
willis-gu
No slicks....tyres with tread, they have tread for a reason, to get grip. I must agree that slicks would be ok in the summer because of the surface area etc, however i just dont trust them, espeshally on rails! I also like in England, the north at that, we see rain on the sunniest of days. Also one more thing, i really cant be arsed to slick them. hdmackay
didnt realise there was any problems with standard tyres?? There isn't. Lol. Just people who want there tyres to be nicer looking, lighter, better mud-shedding and better grip.
Mark W
didnt realise there was any problems with standard tyres?? Cutting a few choice knobbles out of my Monty made it shed mud a lot better, and generally improved the grip. Still left quite a few on though
martin555
I just use creepy crawlers untill they go bald and then get new ones. Not really into the whole slick tyres thing.
