Neilmac
i ride lots so accidents happen often but especially with my pedals, they have a fair grip on them but whether your tryin to get up a wall, going down one or even jst cycling, when u do slip off your pedals and the kick back on you its really sore, so u have to get off your bike hopping on 1 foot doing a wee dance cause ur shins so sore (well i do ) my shins are bruised and shredded, this happenen to anyone else ? Yeah mine are really sore. If you are frequently getting shin digs then I advise you get some new pedals to prevent you're feet slipping off the pedals. onza_rip95
Shin pads They would probably be quite good but they would be awful tedious puting on every time you want to go out on you're trials bike
bikeperson45
They would probably be quite good but they would be awful tedious puting on every time you want to go out on you're trials bike They're not, I use some 661 ones and they're really good. They're the fabric one and you can just put them on and forget their there. And if you hit your shins a lot like me they're really worth it. Would rather wear them then have a leg of scar tissuse
chris4stars
They would probably be quite good but they would be awful tedious puting on every time you want to go out on you're trials bike tedious?! on this logic do you go out with no shoes because its awful tedious to keep putting them on to go outside? personally, id rather avoid being in a situation of not being able to ride due to my shins being in agony..and take that extra 20 seconds to stick my shin pads on! i use (and would highly recommend) the 661 veggie shins (the youth version as they are a tad smaller and more comfortable for me...they are a snug fit though) Edited January 3, 2010 by chris4stars

chris4stars
i know this is a trials forum so an ideal place to ask such questions, but even as a relatively new member... im lost as to why some people find it impossible to open up google, type in 'buy mountain bike shin pads' or somthing similar, and go from there?! failing that, try using a phone..and asking your LBS if they have any, or know where you can buy them (unless you really want to know where i got mine?) chris4stars
i got mine just done the road at mcdonald cycles im sure youve seen it a few times! (about £20 give or take, not much anyway) the veggie youths that i wear still fit a decent size calf - i have no tape measure handy, but with medium sized hands...i can just get my forefingers to touch (if forming a circle around the largest part of my calf) and theres alot of stretch for larger, or velcro for smaller cant see them under jeans at all, and to be honest pretty soon after riding you forget thery are there...its only really when you come in and your chins are still toasty that you realise! injury wise yeh, my shin is already a mess...even have a couple of bone fragments that i can move around, helmet, shin pads and gloves - every ride Edited January 3, 2010 by chris4stars

Well, if you've not much money and need protection from pedals, I've used football shin guards in the past under my jeans, you get added bonus of ankle protectors and they're less bulky and more manoeuvrable than normal bicycle shin/knee protectors that are on the market for alot more money! RazGman
I ordered some veggie shins last week from chain reaction, I had an email today saying they had been shipped with any luck Ill have them in the morning. A few friends have these and they seem very effective but they dont ride trials, they ride xc/freeride. but they look like the best candidates for the job with the low profile soft padding ect. Im starting to feel a little skeptical about the sizing though now as someone said they use youth veggies and I have ordered large because they were the only ones in stock. Ben John-Hynes
Shin pads ARE GAY. Especially if you wear shorts. As you progress you'll hit your shins less and less. Until that happens, be a man a brave the pain!

roboff
I wear football ones too, i quite like them. The ankle protection is good and they only cost like £3 for a cheap pair. This is why i love trials, i used to ride BMX and if i even brought up the subject of wearing shinpads id get ripped to shreds When will they learn? japslap
There's guy does trials near where I'm from, he managed to get a free ride to the hospital in an ambulance after his foot slipped off his pedal and split his shin bone, now he sports quite a large scar down his shin but I guess that's OK because chicks dig scars apparently! In saying that, you do slip less as you progress, I don't really where them any more and the guy who's shin spilt still doesn't.
