benthedog
Tried searching for this but couldn't find it. Sorry if it's a repost As I'm no expert on trials bikes, I was wondering if you could put a 19" tyre on a 20" wheel. Would you have to buy a 19" rim and everything. Thanks Edited January 2, 2010 by benthedog
Mark W
Would you have to buy a 19" rim and everything. Yep.

Mark W
Which bike/back wheel do you have?
benthedog
Well I just bought an onza rip but I'm still waiting for it to arrive. Sorry I don't have a clue but it's supposed to be same as bought new. I asked because i saw a 19" tyre on ebay and liked the sound of it. Mark W
Ah, yeah - 20" wheel on the back. Don't forget your brake mounts would be in the wrong place if you slip a 19" wheel in there!
Ullapool Trials Rider
The only way that you will able to get a 19" tyre, is if you buy a new frame and back wheel. My mate started on an Onza Rip and he just accepted that he would have to stick with a 20" wheel. But a few months ago he bought an Echo Lite Spec 1 and he finds things easier with a 19" because they're much grippier at lower pressures. benthedog
Well I'm certainly not getting a new frame and back wheel. Don't forget your brake mounts would be in the wrong place if you slip a 19" wheel in there!/quote] Would one wheel not go faster than the other if it's smaller as well? Thanks for your help everyone

benthedog
OK thanks, so i wouldn't fall off?
BlueSmokeyJoe
No. The smaller wheel will just rotate more times than the larger wheel along the distance travelled. The tyres used on 19" rims are oversized anyway, the increase in volume means that the overall diameter of the tyre/wheel is the same of that as a front 20" wheel/tyre...
