Revolver
Sounds like a boon, like a backhop but forwards. Anyway, back on topic, read the wiki, it is the right way.
onza wanabe
Hi ther hope this helps. I learned how to pedal kick through the wise words of wisdom from a friend, "your bike is like a pogo stick just with pedals", What i did was learn to balance on the back wheel without hopping moving etc etc... Then it came to the stage where i was able to hop for a long time, So i though to myself i wonder... I then watched a few videos on youtube and studied the foot work and finger work on the pedals and leavers. Soon it hit me get in rythm and start hopping releasing the break in the air holding before i hit the ground again. Once i mastered that i started adding a kick inbetween the releasing of the break kick then holding the break all in 1 movement, you will get the hang of it quickly. Good luck on your pedal kick and hope to see some good footage from you showing us all how you got on. Onza wannabe.

Mod-out
I'm not sure if it's necessary to practice just actuating your brake without the pedal kick. In the process of learning to hop on the back wheel, it's common to release the rear brake for a moment in order to "re-level" the pedals after they ratchet vertical. During this process, you get a bit of a feel for brake control as you hop. At least that's how I did. Then again I'm still not very good on the back wheel, and often feel as if I have to pedalkick to keep from dropping the front wheel. It has helped a lot to focus on leaning extra far back when landing from a pedalkick. Once you do get used to basic pedalkicks, mix things up. It can get very boring (and tiring), just stringing pedalkicks together in a row (As soon as I could, I practiced by starting on one side of a tennis court, and pedal kicking across to the other side the short way, not in one kick, of course. Then repeat). Lately it's helped to mix up practice by starting about 4' from a curb or drop, pedalkicking to the edge, then going either up or down (depending on the obstacle, of course), trying to not drop the front wheel after the obstacle, and being sure to pause and hop a couple of times between pedalkicks. It's more satisfying than just practicing on flat, and the crashes keep things exciting... I hope things work out. As long as you can keep practicing, you'll get there. If you get frustrated, stop. Either take a break and come back, or come back the next day. Balance skills often improve just by sleeping on them.
Neilmac
i took me about 2 weeks to learn the pedal kick, definitly the hardest thing i had to learn. get ur rear wheel hops down first, once you have that completely mastered then go for it, you cant go rong with what everyone else has said, u just need to be really determind u can do it ! onza_rip95
Learning to pedal kick is just a matter of timing. You want to release the rear brake and push on the peal all while the rear tire is off the ground. To get more distance let the front wheel come down a bit and then kick, its easier to see than it is to explain, go to www.observedtrials.net there are many vidoes you can watch that should help you get the hang of pedal kicking. Also have a look at this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cuo7BslZXz8 Edited January 4, 2010 by onza_rip95
