BvP
Hi guys, while I was looking at the new effect frame I noticed they could be mounted with the Truvativ Hammerschmidt crank/freewheel/gear system. Click for more info. Has anyone trials tested it? I've got a slight feeling It wouldn't hold up, but you never know.
monkeyseemonkeydo
I've got a slight feeling It wouldn't hold upI'd go with that. Combined with it being one ugly lump which I'd rather not have on my bike I think it would die very quickly if you ever went to bash. josh barker
no they wouldnt be anygood because they have gear ratios inside them wich change to speed ratios, and the price is crap.
sstein
no they wouldnt be anygood because they have gear ratios inside them wich change to speed ratios, and the price is crap. That is the point though, it would mean that you could change from trials to standard gearing while effectively still having a single speed bike, meaning we could get around better/ride street stuff easier. Also as the smaller gearing is the direct drive one it might hold up, but I don't think it will stand up to bashers like myself.
xswimordiex
too expensive and heavy to even bother
ogre
weights not really an issue for a streety 24, it could be quite fun. they sell hamerschmidts to DHers so it'll probably take a fair amount of hammer.

BvP
The extra weight is almost neglectable if you compare it with a classical gearing setup with freehub or freewheel. But it sure is not intended for the bashers among us, uci-style is the way to go here.
monkeyseemonkeydo
I still don't get the advantage, even on a normal freeride bike. Ok so you gain a bit of ground clearance but that's not an issue for 99% of MTBers. It only seems to be an enclosed system instead of an open derraileur but the ugliness of it seems to outweigh any possible benefit...
