Captain Scarlet
Was removing my Chris King headset from my frame earlier when the screwdriver slipped off the inner most part of cup and down onto the bearing, without realising this had happened I gave another twat of the hammer to find my bearings all over the floor. GASH!Quick search of Tarty and the internet, I can't actually find replaceable bearings, I understand that they are sealed, yet can be maintained, have I just essentially knocked the seal out?I've lost the majority of the ball bearings but I'm assuming these can easily be replaced with others, I just need to know if it can all go back together with no hassle, or I've actually broken a sealed bearing.Cheers,Tom

I did this on my first king it was better for me to buy a new bearing than trying to fit all back together, was such hard work!
Captain Scarlet
I've had a crack at it, all I'm thinking is that I need all the bearings, pop them all back in with a good amount of grease to hold them in place, pop the seal in and once its all clamped against the crown race and in the headtube, sealed or not that shit is going nowhere.Where did you buy a replacement bearing for it? I can't seem to find one.
max-t
Send the headset to Aspire. They will put new bearings in for you at a cost.Aspirevelotech.
Captain Scarlet
Speaking with a bloke at work, he had this same trouble and managed to put his king back together bar a few bearings with no problems at all.Anyone know where I can order the same size bearings, I've already nabbed the smallest headset ones I could find at work but King ones are a tadly bit smaller. I will try and find out my invoice as to what size it was might be handy for you
Captain Scarlet
I had 2 emails back from Chris King, one guy said that trials invalidates the 10 year warranty (which I think is utter bollocks personally).Second reply, another guy said that their headset bearings were a secret size and at this time they are the only people who can replace them.Spoke to the mechanic at work, he had a hunch that they were the same size as cassette bearings, so we stripped down a cheap bulk cassette hub, low and behold they are exactly the same size!Greased them all up, sealed it all back in place with the twat of a mallet, perfect!Only size I think they can be is 1/8" bearings, as 5/32" was marginally too big. Either way if you get stuck with obtaining bearings, just buy a really cheap bulk cassette hub, probably set you back at £10 and contain about 40 odd bearings. psycholist
You can be damned sure the bearings you've replaced from a hub will be complete shite in terms of the material quality compared to the OEM King ones. It's the reason the bearings in my 6 year old XTR hub still have a near mirror finish and run perfectly smooth while a Deore hub will feel like shit after 2 or 3 months of the same use.
