bikeperson45
My Hope Mono disc brake on the front is getting very slowly worse. I want it so that when I do up to fronts the wheel is locked and doesn't start rolling. Will new pads work, they're not completly worn but their not amazingly new either. And do i have to bleed the brake when I change them? Is there any other ways of improving it's performance? Thanks
Dale-Hill
New pads blead and give rotor a really good clean.SHould improve it once pads have bedded in after
Borat
Yeahm I think it's just your disk and rotor contaminated. Thats what it sounded like last weekend.
Matt Vandart
An interesting point to note.If you want your mono to bite like a maggie (but you will loose modulation) put some aluminium washers under the bolt heads, it'll throw you over the bars if your not careful! Might give it a shot.
Mikey-uk
Yo Rob, as I said last weekend take the rotor off and stick it in the oven for 30minutes. This should burn off any residue etc, give it a good rinse in warm water after though. As for the pads I just scrub them with a little fairy liquid and then rinse, dry with paper towels and reatatch. You won't need to bleed after doing this although if you're comfortable doing a bleed you could do.Remember do NOT pull the lever without the rotor as the pistons will get pushed all the way out and could damage them. Also remember that when you put these parts back on your bike you will need to throw water on / have brake half on just to bed them back in.Hope I helped and I better see you tomorrow xD
bikeperson45
Cooleo, thanks for all the help. I'll try cleaning it all up and decontaminating it in a bit. For the oven thing is there any temperature I should use?Hope I helped and I better see you tomorrow xDHopefully I'll come, but I have mock GCSE week so really should be revising for that... Mikey-uk
I usually use Gas Mark 6..... I also tend to cook somthing with it as, being a fat f**k if the ovens already on why not take the opportunity? xD If you're worried about gas bills or anything you could probs do 30mins on Gas Mark

trialsmax04
Sorry to bump this, but I really need to know. :$The bolts that hold the caliper to the forks/ adaptor
Dan S
I would think under the rotor bolts as you have to put washers under caliper bolts in any event to set the brake up.

But really, how does this work? Spacing out a rotor improves bite?Someone please explain

Mikey-uk
What was said about the washers btw, I have washers under the bolts (on the outside of the mount so all it sits between the bolt head and the frame.) Not sure how that helps but its what i've got
