Duncy H
It is definitely on for any of you that were thinking it might not be. I should be going in a box but I haven't heard anything about organizing it Will be strange to see riders I know competing in it :/ Should be good!!! Plan of riding indoors will have to be scrapped seen as my uncle fell through a barn roof putting a skylight up. But he's ok. Ben Swales
It was an awesome evening! The new format threw up some surprise results, and it was certainly exciting! Danny Mac didn't ride, but he was there for a quick interview with the commentators (as was Steve Peat), and they showed his video instead... There's a write-up and photos up on Tribal Zine (here). Thanks to Ian Cross (pics4all) for the photos! Edited January 11, 2010 by Ben Swales
isitafox
Well all I can say is the new format they went with was a bit of a joke. Made it all far too complicated. Still a good night though and glad they showed dannys video at least, and I got to have a word with him when he was in the crowd after his interview. Ben Swales
Yeah, I couldn't believe Fajardo went out despite only scoring 1 the whole evening! Same for Fujinami too... Edited January 11, 2010 by Ben Swales

The whole scoring system is a joke. The riders, including Toni Bou, plan to not ride at the next event if the rules aren't changed back. Scotty Evil1
It was a good event, crazy riding as usual. But i didnt like the new format, yes it made it more entertaining, but really unfair for the riders and put too much emphasis on the race. For example, fuji and fajardo going out, and i know this sounds bad, but dabill being in the top 4, although he got 3rd fair n square in the final! Big up the brits, wiggy was unlucky though. Shows you dont need live halftime enterainment though, just stick a crazy vid on! Edited January 11, 2010 by Scotty Evil1
AdamR28
Toni Bou. That waterfall. 'nuff said.
Duncy H
Toni Bou. That waterfall. 'nuff said. What an awesome night, was so amazing! But as said toni was untouchable, his style is so amazing! So smooth and gentil. Was talking to michael brown yesterday about how he went out with the new format. He went out in the section time trial knock out as he went first, however the thing is them who went last were at an advantage as they knew what they had to do, go shit or bust! Not really a fan of the new format but was such a great day/night
CalopS
Does anyone know if/when it will be shown on tv?
isitafox
5pm Eurosport 2 tonight there's Trials World Championship scheduled so would assume its that
Ben Swales
If it's not too cheeky, would someone who has Eurosport fancy recording it and uploading it to Vimeo or similar?
psycholist
If the last couple of years are anything to go by Halfords will sell a DVD with coverage of all the indoor rounds and a second with all the outdoor rounds once the season finishes - that's how I've been able to get my fix of trials coverage anyway. I only wish I could get the same thing for the bicycle trials rounds...
Ben Swales
Good point. Good old Duke videos! The commentary can be a bit iffy at times, on my 2005 outdoor championship DVD he sees someone in a white pac-a-mac and says "...a member of the klu klux klan there!". They PROBABLY weren't in the klu klux klan...
psycholist
The commentator for last year's indoor rounds using the word fiasco to describe every dab every rider got was a bit irritating, but the riding itself is unreal... psycholist
On the outdoor round in Venezuela he kept pronouncing Venezuela with a vaguely Spanish accent too, which cracked me up... For truly bad commentary all I need to do is watch anything that's not soccer, gaelic football/hurling, boxing, golf or horse racing on Irish TV (Not that sports other than this ever get significant coverage)... The Olympic commentary for example is the single greatest show of sporting ignorance I've ever seen - for example, a quote from one of the Irish commentators on the XC MTB race in 1996 (Approximately the last time I watched sport on Irish TV) - 'These bikes have 24 gears, and you can be sure they'll use all of them on the course today'... For anyone who hasn't ridden a mountain bike, about 6 out of the 24 gears are never used because they're duplicates of gears with a better chainline. For the gymnastics they got a male presenter from a fashion programme they used to make, probably on the basis that since he was into fashion he was probably gay and therefore (In a display of the kind of stereotyping most civilised countries abandoned in the dark ages) must know something about gymnastics... Was talking to michael brown yesterday about how he went out with the new format. Even on the old system? If it was Jack Burnicle he's a legend! It sure was! His commentary is brilliant, very entertaining to listen to, and frequently takes the piss out of the minders, observers and audience. Mark W
Ermmm, but it's that the same with any trial? Even on the old system? Running order wise yeah, but to be able to go out on a trial having only dabbed once when people who've dabbed more go through seems odd. The new format was really bad, the commentators didn't know what was going on, the riders didn't know what was going on, the crowd certainly didn't... Revolver
Running order wise yeah, but to be able to go out on a trial having only dabbed once when people who've dabbed more go through seems odd. That sounds retarded... I always thought the time only came into play when people had scored the same. The UCI way, with the time limit and then penalties for exceeding it, is sensible. psycholist
It definitely doesn't sound like the new system is better. If you ride each section under the time limit and don't dab then you should win. What was so wrong with the previous system they used? I wouldn't think the kind of audience who watches trials have such a short attention span that turning everything into a race is in any way justified. Given riders already got a point added for every 15 seconds they went over time on a section, that should be all incentive needed to keep things moving, as well as allowing a bit of showboating on shorter sections (If your surname is Raga or Bou)... isitafox
the commentators didn't know what was going on, the riders didn't know what was going on, the crowd certainly didn't... Too right, was hard enough explaining to my missus how normal trials worked, this was impossible cause I had no idea!
