basically just bought a sony dvd camcorder, when ive finalized the dvd and inserted it into my computer it plays on vlc meda player and the file format is .voc

but on the timeline of vlc player it says the clip is 11 seconds long (even though its 4 minutes long) and when i drag the clip in sony vegas 7 it shows the clip as 11 seconds long and not the full clip.

do i need to convert the clips to .mpeg? and can you do this?

anybody had similar problems?

anybody even use dvd camcorders for use on pcs/laptops and editing?

I use a panasonic one. They are fantastic but I have the same problem as you when I put the disc straight into the computer (though, I often don't finalise it before I do. What you can do Is import the file like said, or copy the file of the disc and use VLC to convert it to another file type. That should solve your problem.

If it's any help, try changing .voc to .mpg. Not sure if that will work, but it might just do it.

I would of thought Vegas could finalise to Mpegs anyway. So this is probably your best bet, unless it's to work on DVD players i guess.

.voc is a different format to .mpg designed to work specifically on dvd players. It is easily convertible if you have the right program (pretty sure vlc works with that format, if not super will and both programs are free). What I suggest you do in future though, is set the camera so it records to an easily editable file type such as VR and then import it using the software provided with the camera or just change the file to .mpg as VR is a compatible file for this transformation.
