Hope Pro 2 Question

Hi All,

My rear hope pro 2 hub has started to annoy me.

My freehub has gone stiff and doesn't spin as easy as it used too.

The tighter the bolt is done up the stiffer the freehub becomes.

I changed the freehub bearings around 2 months ago because they collapsed and i know i put the spacer back in. It has all of a sudden decided to go stiff.

Any ideas what it could be.

Thanks in advance

Mine does that every time I rebuild it. Take the wheel out, remove the bolts but leave the end caps on, place one end cap on a block of wood and give the one on the upside a good twatting with a soft mallet, (I have one with plastic heads).

Then flip the wheel and repeat.

Then put the wheel in, overtighten the bolts then wind them back off. Sounds pretty agricultural but it's worked both times for me.

like from what Muel said , sounds like the bearings havent bedded properly , see if you can knock them in a bit , i have hope bearing drifts if you need them , just pm me .

good luck with it.

I had this problem but I found that it was because I had done it up to tight and the drive side end cape had started rubbing against the bearing and made the end cape have a ridge around where the plastic end cap of the bearing is and was rubbing on the bearing making the freewheel stiff.

I fixed it by using a lathe and turning down the end cape a small amount so that there was only a ridge in the centre so it can rest against the inner ring of the bearing so the freewheel could move easily. Another way to fix it is to find the correct sized washer and put it between the end cap and the inner ring of the bearing (eg a spare washer from inside the freewheel mechanism, if it is the correct thickness).

Was ok thanks Troy.

Thanks for the responses lads. I shall give what muel said a go.

I can remember when i took the freewheel off to swap the broken freewheel bearings and the end cap was a pain in the arse to get off.

Might get a new set of end caps because the are probably a bit worse for wear.
