Guantanamo
Bought some forks from somebody on these forums. Trouble is the star nut they used is the wrong size for the steerer tube and has jammed in, and to make matters worse they've sheered off the bolt in the starnut. I've tried knocking the starnut through but being too big it's just wedged it. Any idea of getting it out? I asked in halfords if they'd drill it out for me, but they can't do it because of the sheered bolt. any idea? I don't need it out at the moment, but if i want to trim the steerer tube in the future (am running 30mm of spacers currently) i can't just put another starnut in on top as it's not wedged far enough down the tube. Make sense?Any thoughts appreciated.Adam Edited November 17, 2009 by Guantanamo

Ben John-Hynes
They wouldn't do it? Ask anyone with a drill, you live in brum, i'll lend you one. As it's pretty much the only way you're gonna get it out!

King C
Drill it out or man up and knock it out! Put a drift/large screwdrider down the other end of the forks and hit it until it comes out of the end it was put in.

dandadude
Tried knocking it out, just got so far then won't go any further. i'll get someone from my local bike shop to drill it for me.With a few good hard hits using a lump hammer and a chisel/big punch it should pop out, the reason its jammed is its probably hit a small lump or cross binded. Give it some proper love and im sure it will pop out. Im sure your local bike shop will sort it out fine its just something like that im sure you could beat out yourself.Dan Edited November 13, 2009 by dandadude
AdamR28
They are made of pretty 'hard' steel, which means they are brittle - so if you give it some grief with a hammer and a screwdriver (tech) it will fall to bits and drop out

Hard. doesn't look like the starnuts you supply with the circular nut area. this one looks like a normal 6 sided nut with the outer pieces bent right up against the steerer tube an the nut piece so close to the sides of the tub they may as well be touching. think i'll take them into the bike shop. Bummer. Edited November 13, 2009 by Guantanamo
